Does your motor have a shift interrupt switch, or is that just on v-6's? Just a thought...

you mention swearing...have you tried begging and/or bribery? sacrifice? pennance?

When it doesn't start, do you have fuel in the carb bowls? You've checked the fuel lines, but they can collapse internally, and look fine externally. Might try replacing them. I think you should look at your exhaust leg, and I really like Walker's suggestion of soaking the carbs overnight and doing a complete rebuild and assuring they are squeeky clean, and blown clear. Something is robbing you of your fuel or air, or too much fuel or air at the wrong times. it has to be a fuel line, orifice or a breathing problem (exhaust / intake).

Just out of curiosity, how did you decarb if you can't get it to run?

Did you advance the throttle by hand at the carb without the timer base being moved? I think this was asked earlier and you said you stood at the helm and could see everything move, but this is different than moving each one independent of the other while the engine is running. You may be able to identify where the problem is if it only dies when either the timing or the throttle is advanced.

I guess I missed the point earlier about isolating the advance from the throttle. I'll try that.

You decarbed it right before the problem started. I got to go back to the recirculation system. Test all 4 valves and the inline valve. If they leak even a little bit the wrong direction replace them. Same thing happened to my 94 120 after a decarb. I tried cleaning the valves but that didn't work.

You were right. I did not check the recirc valves right before. I tested them again and cleaned them and the motor is running again. I'll have to reset the timing though as I put the old PP back on when I was troubleshooting a couple weeks ago. Thanks again.d

Just an FYI -- you can soak the plastic carbs. And the throttle bodies.

Just an update to end the long saga of problems I had this summer.

1. Begining of summer all was fixed and running great thanks to all here.

2. Recirc valved clogged when I used seafoam to clean things up. Walker helped ID that problem.

3. Spent rest of summer trying to link/sync while bouncing around at the mooring and gave up in late Aug.

4. Pulled it in Sept. and found a great mech to look it over. He straightened out the linc/sync and has it running good.
