ss wood screws will be harder to find than ss sheet metal screws. The only difference is a smooth shank over full threads (there a reason for this, google if you want to know why). I suggest predrilling and countersinking the holes. Make sure you buy the right lenght; you dont want screws hanging out the bottom of your boat! Try and use a #10 or #12.

By far the best, but very expensive. I generally just use SS wood screws. Most of the ones I've removed from factory installation are just cheapy zinc wood screws.
There about $5.00/100 more than Stainless.

If you predril and then coat with 5 minute epoxy or the resin your using for the deck then Lowe's deck screws work Just fine like EZ said.;)

If for some reason you want to start drilling holes into your Sole and Stringers then the deck screws are your best bet.

As far as those Frearson bronze screws .. there main purpose is for Wooden boats ( like Chris Crafts with Mohog planks .. wood to wood ). One thing is you have to have a Frearson Bit ( they are NOT philips bits ). Your looking for trouble if your screwing into glass ( Tops of stringers glassed ? ) .

Each type of screw has there own specific use ( SS mostly on FG boats .. AL for tinnies and Bronze on woodies ).

Re: screws for deck

I am going to mark this day on my calendar.

Dont get me wrong here..I can buy a box ( #8 or #10 x2" ) of a hundred SS screws for 8 bucks. Just didnt think the normal DIY'ers out there can get that price .. so in the Spirit of Iboats I suggested the good deck screws :D .

Plus I was assuming the sole was going to be glassed in ;) .

YD.

PS. Screwing into a FG stringer might cause a lot of heads being broken off using SS ( if not piloted right ).

That's why I ALWAYS recommend Pre-Drilling and coating the screws with resin.;)
PS Have you noticed that the OP has NOT revisited. I think we are talking to ourselves:p

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this....thought I was just crazy.

That's just a sign of old age WOOD! The real problem starts when you start answering yourself

OMG, I've answered myself....I have gone over the deep end..
