Re: sea fishing in a boat

Oh, the good ole days. We would take a 10footer out in the Atlantic with an ancient 3hp Evenrude. Catch fish too! Until.....we launched from Key West for some bonefishing. The current was so strong we thought we were headed to Cuba. My fishing buddy was in a panic. He drank beer while I assisted the motor by paddling with the cooler lid. I'm here! Some Are Sicker Than Others, please don't follow in my footsteps.....on anything!

I remember when I was a boy we were drift fishing a few miles offshore in a 16' trihull when dad hollered and pointed at the water.I looked and saw a huge whale easily twice as large as our boat pass right under the boat.it made me think I and the boat were too small to be there!!Sasto, great picture.

i woundn't try that with a 10' boat im planning on doing it with my 14' tri hull boat this summer huggign the shore just to get to this nice harbor i want to to the boat parade. and you shouldnt try any thing like that with a 10' boat way to many thing that can go wrong. and ive done some crazy stuff on boat but nothing that crazy. i take a 14' john boat out it 3' waves with a 3.5 and that was fun and dangerous but i wouldnt go to the sea thats a hole diffrent place and can change in a second out there

Sure go ahead and try it, what's the worst thing that can happen? Wave hits your little boat, boats takes on water boat starts to sink you jump in the water and try to swim a mile to shore and in the process cramp up and well you end up on the 6pm news "Boater drowns on the sea".
No man dont even think about it if you value your life.

I have a 15ft SD 470 Saturn inflatable boat that I fish off of. The boat handles great on calm days. I always check the weather report before going out and don't wander too far away from shore. I would definitely upgrade from the 8.5ft inflatable though. Thats pretty small. These guys have the best boats around for the money. http://www.boatstogo.com/

Do you realize you replied to a thread that was almost a year and a half old? The OP joined the forum on 11AUG09. He posted this one on 14AUG09. His last post was 22AUG09. I hope that's not because he decided to take his 10' rowboat equipped with his 4hp outboard "out to sea"

No veritas honus, lead me the way!...thanks.

Here is a link to Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Rope-American...sr_1_1_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 The reviews will only give you an insight to the book. It's much more than any of these reviews describe. The Marine who has a soured opinion of the book, has apparrently misunderstood a couple of things the author said about Military Technique. This is NOT a Military book. If after reading the reviews, you don't think you'll want to buy it; next time you pass a Public Library or a good book store, take a look at it. You'll want to own it once you see it.

PS: It's "Lead The Way"... And that was a nice thought. Thank you. I'll say to you, "Sua Sponte" my friend.

You can get swamped by a passer by. I scared the hell out of my
wife, and I in the potomac river in a 12' tri hull. My brother, and
almost got swamped in a 16' Star Craft at Oregon Inlet NC. I was
affraid every time I ventured out on the Chesapeak, and realized
I needed a bigger boat - you need a bigger boat.

Re: sea fishing in a boat

:rolleyes:Anyone taking their boat in the ocean or large lakes should imagine having bad weather and engine failure,Now how big does it need to be? W/o power all boats, esp. smaller ones, are at the mercy of the wind and waves; They can change quickly and dramatically!!Also,If a big boat sinks theres more debris to cling too!!!

Re: sea fishing in a boat

This was a funny yet serious thread. I have since learned from you all. I also have a small boat 11.154 feet inflatable and was goign to takeit about 100 meters offshore but have since decided against it. However, I did have another thread going but maybe nobody saw it. I was asking about this zodiac340 with a 5hp engine on the French Coast, but now i have found many sheltered sounds and harbors and bays that are noted to be very sheltered. And I have also been on them and saw this as well. Can my little 11 footer with a 5hp manage this safely? I do intend to stay close to the shore, how close is close by the way? What can you possibly catch in the sea in harbors and sounds? and how close to shore can you actually catch fish on a boat?
