I have looked and looked on instructions on how to use sea foam on my 25 hp Johnson 2 stroke. I was only able to find paragraph after paragraph of complicated instructions. Could someone please give me the easy method?

Thanks!

Re: sea foam?

Are you talking about using it to decarbon your engine or just as an additive to your fuel for regular use?

I guess d-carb, the motor runs great but it is a 1970 and I know it has tons of carbon in it and just want to clean it out some.

CAT and others,

i want to jump in here with a question of my own. both my outboards, while working well, were purchased used. as such, i've either changed, or will change, their respective impellers, and i want to do whatever else i _should_ do for them to ensure their long term health, [besides regular use].

i've been wondering about de-carboning? should i just do it for each of my outboards, since i don't know when/if it was ever done before? or do most prudent folks just use their motors till they develop "symptoms", and then decarbon? and what would those symptoms be?

Heck, I don't know. I use my outboards as long as they're running well. I do regular maintenance, like impeller changes and lower unit oil changes every couple of seasons. New spark plugs go in at the start of every season, with the good old ones going into a box for spares.

De-carboning, though, I don't do unless there's a reason for it. Mostly, it's good for clearing up stuck rings, but it also does clean the combusion chamber.

Tashasdaddy has a great routine for doing it, which you can see at the link below:

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=281046&highlight=decarbon

It can't do any harm, and might improve performance slightly on a good-running outboard, but not by much.

Re: sea foam?

also adding seafoam to the fuel, per directions on the can, is good for keeping clean carbs clean. it will do nothing for dirty carbs, until you clean and rebuild them.
