Sealing a deck hatch

Wellcraft 21sl 1997.
My deck hatch has some small leaks in it and I will remove to investigate.
What is the procedure for re-sealing it against the boat?

there are many sealers out there, but i go back to the old butyl base caulking. new dries, and stays flexible. mineral spirits for clean up. i assume you are saying it's leaking around the frame, not between the frame and hatch.

Is it an inspection hatch? Or a hatch that goes into storage? Is it for checking your hull?

like i said, is it leaking between the frame and the deck, or the lid and the frame? it makes a difference. it looks like the existing sealer between the frame and deck, is shot. remove the screws and remove the hatch. clean both surfaces, and get a caulking gun and tube of butyl caulking, at home center. put a large bead on the caulking, on the deck, set the hatch in place and screw down, now clean up the mess, with paint thinner (mineral spirits).

Just wondering, is the top half of the hatch removable without undoing the inside part?
Is it just a case of removing the 10 screws in the top?

looks like just remove the 10 screws. it should separate.
