First time poster, go easy. ;) I got an 86 Bayliner Capri, just ready to start putting back together... seats- uh, maybe a stupid question:

If I rebuild the seat boxes exactly as they are, will I be sorry? What seat options will I have?

I was thinking of a capt's chair for the driver but it seems like I'd be eating a lot of wind in my face. Usually end up sitting on top of the seat, but not sure if I want to change the original design.

Do I keep all the seat hardware off the old seats? Or do the new seats come ready to slip into the old Bayliner slots?

Could I just frame in some boxes and mount back to back seats on top of the boxes?

any suggestions
Thanks
Willy

Re: Seat help

Bayliners are one of the few hulls where the seat boxes are integrated into the hull. Some seating companies do sell "Bayliner seats" which come without a base ready to go on your existing boxes http://www.boatingseats.com/scripts/baylinerseats.asp
For the rest of us, regular lounges seats with bases (usually rot-proof plastic nowadays) are the ticket http://www.boatingseats.com/scripts/loungeseats.asp I'm a fan of the lounge seat on the passenger side, bucket on the driver side configuration you see on a lot of the newer boats.

Re: Seat help

Hey Exmobee, I was wondering if I got the non Bayliner seats if I could modify my seat box so that the new seat box bottoms just fit over my original bases. Then I could just screw them on.

I can remodel my original bases and make them the interior measurement of the bottom of the new seat boxes.

Certainly seems like it would be quite do-able. Often when you buy a new set of the loungers the seats aren't even attached to the bases when you get them.

Re: Seat help

Sorry, EZMOBEE

If I got one of the buckets off that website, would you recommend me putting a pedastal stand that I could raise and lower to shield one from the wind if needed. OR just build a box and put mounting hardware on top of it at a comfortable ht for me? Then I suppose I'd have to cut my current box off at where it meets the hull then grind that down etc.

Thank you

I'm learning as I go...

Re: Seat help

So I looked into some options today, at work... AHH state jobs are nice!

I can buy a Boat Store Seat for 159.99. The opening on the bottom of the plastic box is 11" x 33" not sure what my bayliner box measures cause I can't get home til tonight. Guessing it's not 11" x 33" that would be too easy to just drop the Boat Store seat over the seat box and fasten.

Option 2 is to cut my current seat boxes off, and rebuild to 11" x 33" dimension. What is under the seat boxes? Foam? or air?

Option 3 just remodel my Bayliner seat boxes so the track and hole is a little tighter and order the Bayliner replacement seats.

Option 4 try to use the seats that cam out which would seem like a waste cause they are out of shape, unless they can be re-foamed and shaped to look nice, I doubt it.

Any suggestions from you all that have done this before?

Thank you
