I have a older boat that has the seat that are the back to back and you lift up back of the seat and it lays down flat. I want to take these out on both sides. I want to install a pedistal and put a better seat on the pedistal like the one I have shown. Should this be a problem

Re: Seat question

Would I be better off if i put some 2x2 around the deck and put on some new
plywood and then attach the base to this. I was thinking this might be better
let me know what you think.

If your deck isn't soft you should be fine.

Re: Seat question

I can't recall who did it but someone on here actually made a base (like you mentioned) out of what looked like base board material and put plywood on top of that. It gave it a little better appearance than just a blocky-shaped base. Then, rather than screwing it to the hull, he positioned it where it needed to be with the seat and pedestal sitting on it, and traced onto the deck where it would be. He then took the pedestal and seat off and glassed the base down. This prevents the possibility of water getting into those screw holes.
Hope this helps!
