first off, sorry if this has been asked before, some of this can be confusing..

have a 1973 Merc 888 (ford 302 v8) and outdrive
from what i understand...the outdrive is the MC-1 w/ 1.50 ratio

is the SEI se106 a direct replacement drive? also, lists as a 1.47 ratio..

from their site:
SE106 (replaces MerCruiser's
R/MR/Alpha One I/O)

doesn't particularly mention the MC-1 drive

opinions?

You couldn't tell the difference between a 1.47 and a 1.50. It's all done with a calculator.

You aren't using a calculator, are you? :)
Dons right. run the 1.47 you won't notice a difference.

I think you need the sei 106, talk to sei and they will help you out. I put a sei 106 on my boat this spring. Merc 140hp, 1971 outdrive. These sei outdrives are noisy at first before you get the gears broke in.
I put 100 hrs on mine this summer with no problems. Make sure and change the oil at 8-10 hrs like they recommend you will have some metal in it.
I changed mine at 8 hrs and at 100hrs. I had numerous hours to trolling and running. My drive is pretty quite now after I got about 40 hrs on it.
I had no problems with sei.
