Has anyone used or seen in action the contraption that lets you load your boat by yourself? Its called, "rope-a-boat", and built by: qualitymarkinc.com. There are a couple of videos on the site that are very interesting. I'd like to know if it is indeed a quality item for someone who doesn't always have another person to help.

Ayuh,.... I've been doin' Self-launches, 'n retrieves for 40 years, with just the boat, 'n a rope....

I can see lotsa Issues with that system, anytime the water ain't like glass...

Tall guide posts have been the biggest improvement I've seen in the process...

Re: self loading boat

I believe he is referring to THIS.

OK I watched it.

For one thing, I like the bow ladder and that would be a good thing to have in a number of situations. But not the rest of it.

The rest of the rig, unless you are handicapped or otherwise not able to manage a boat and trailer, seems unnecesary and problematic.

For launching: not needed with rollers; probably not needed with most floaters. And I've heard of people rigging a power winch to pull a boat back but that takes a lot of engineering.

For retrieve: a plain old power winch does what this does.

I don't trust the latching hardware; i want a simple strong hook-up I handle myself and visually check myself.

The whole thing looks weak. you pull the boat back on pulleys on side posts--see how long they last before bending. The electronics look weak. None of it would last long around salt water is my bet. If any of the components don't work you are stuck (you can hand crank a power winch).

Since it's designed for small boats it's hardly necessary.

File it under "too many things to go wrong" department.

I'll admit though my perspective is a bit different b/c around here, all ramps have docks next to them, so there's some advantage there for those who don't tight-rope walk too well.

Re: self loading boat

I guess that would be great on a private ramp or for a 30 second boat ride.

I see nothing for real world applications that I can't do with a rope and winch.

It looks overly complicated.
While it might be useful on a private ramp where everyone can get on board before launching.
The issue of getting the trailer to the parking area still remains.
If doing this solo you will need to launch and then tie-up somewhere and return to park the trailer.

Getting the boat on or off the trailer is easy. As a solo operating trailerboater what I want at the end of the day is a gadget that can start the truck up, back the trailer in and pull back out, all while I am at the helm poppin' a brew open and watching :)

Re: self loading boat

Bond O in post 4 is right on for old guys alone. Me.

I have 4 TALL posts that have PVC roller pieces around them. They PRESS against the hull as I power drive foward while seated. I can angle the trailer down river in strong currents & still go in alone easily. I put the bow AGAINST the bow bumper & LEAVE IT IN GEAR IDLING. Climb out of the boat. Snap on the hand winch strap & safety chain. Climb back in the boat ,shut down. Check all electrical switches to OFF. Drive to the parking lot & finish everything else.

Still works at 75. :)

I think you mistook my tongue in cheek for a chaw of bacca.

But if it was your own private ramp why would you need to park the trailer. Anyone dumb enough to buy this contraption can afford new bearings once a year.

It looks expensive, and looks like something the guy with 2 power poles hangin' off the back of his boat would have.

Solo launches are easy after you've done a few.

Absolute waste of time and money unless you own the ramp and can leave our truck and trailer sitting there.

But if you own the ramp, why not just put a dock in.

A good trailer cures a lot of things period.

Re: self loading boat

Ya, it sort of neet and does what it is suppose to but no thanks.

Can you imagine trying to fix it when it breaks, and there is alot of stuff to break there but for your "gotta have every new gadget guy" that would be pretty cool

Re: self loading boat

Boy oh Boy: You guys have convinced me. Just hope this isn't just testosterone talkin', like, I don't need no stinkin' contraption to load my boat, nosireebob! Been doin' it nigh on 40 years er more. Course if a person happens to be physically impaired, like war wounds or such, something like this might be an advantage.
