Get outside go for a walk..... visit a library, a mall, just get occupied. You can beat this. Do you like celery? Munch on something non fattening.

You have to beat the urges one at a time. Hang in there. I did :)

Re: Serious Cravings---

I have stopped and started back 8 times in my life and it just got harder every time.
Please stop if you can. It will be so much better for you.
I still smoke, but that is about all I have to do anymore.
Good luck.

Like Dr. Phil says, if you give up something, you have to replace it with something else.

Excercise is the very best thing to replace smoking.

After a period of time when you get fit, you will slap your head, for being so dumb in the first place (ex smoker here too, 21 years) and pat your self on the back, for making a much better you. ;)

Git er Done!

You can do it! It's just a cigarette ... you're tougher than that.

That's what I told myself when I quit. I haven't touched a cigarette in 7 years.

Just remember that kissing a smoker on the mouth is like licking an ashtray full of wet cigarette butts.

You can do it. I quit like you did a little over a year ago. Even now, occasionally I'll find myself craving a cig, and I have the feeling those cravings will never stop. The good news is, they get MUCH easier to fight off, and much farther apart.

Hang in there, it will get better. I'm almost through my fourth month off the butts. I still get cravings but substitute a BreathSavers mint for the cig. Whatever, try not to take even one puff. You don't want to start quitting all over again.

I used to smoke three packs of non-filtered Camels a day.

1 Find something to do with your hands.
2 When you really can't stand it, puff on a cigar a while, just don't inhale.
3 Intellectually be aware that you are better off healthwise not smoking.
4 Realize there is no easy way to quit.
5 It took me years to get to a point where I didn't want to smoke.
Yea, I know. That really doesn't help.
6 Find an aerobic activity that you enjoy, and get involved with a group.
7 If it doesn't work, try again later.

Best of luck. You can do it!

x2.

For 20 years I only smoked weekdays, very rarely on weekends. Quitting was the toughest. Now it's been 20 years since my last, and the smell of one gives me a huge headache.

Working out will definately help, especially when you see the difference not being on them things makes. When I first quit I started running on a treadmill, and could only do it for about 1-2 minutes at first, but within a couple weeks could run for 15 minutes before being short of breath, and by the end of month 2 I was running for 45 minutes and outpacing most of the personal trainers down at the gym. It's a pretty incredible feeling to not be out of breath for the first time in years... and it'll make the cravings seem much less significant.

PS - I'm not nearly in such good shape now, as it's been a full year since the last time I worked out. When my wife went into her 9th month of pregnancy I didn't want baby to come when I was away from the phone, and found it was pretty hard to get back to the gym after AJ came... one day soon I will though. But it did help me quit smoking anyway.

As kwikk9, get you some mints, gum or other substitutes. Even tooth picks, that you can put in your shirt pocket and grab for. I quit one time a few years back, unfortunately started back, but I didn't use any of those remedies either. Back when I was working at my last job I didn't smoke near as much as I use to, I used peppermints, and I smoked cigars only. Best of luck, if you find any other remedy that works better let me know, maybe I'll join the wrest of yawl that have successfully quit.
