Re: seriously I need help with my STARCRAFT

so here is the bottom of the boat as you can see kev my project is allready at a crawl......but i got some close ups of the holes and was wondering what to use to repair them also the entire hull is pitted is several places some bad some minor but i may have gotten myself into a lot more work then i planned

rick and kev ill be on here the entire resto....your input means a lot and if i have the money and the boat is finished ill try and make it to your gathering even though ft myers would be the best place to have it...... cant wait to get to the good stuff!!!

Kewl..I'll be watching since like Rick said, I was trying to buy that boat, but was away in Ga on business...I talked with the seller a few times actually, he was even going to be out of town as well..When I got back from Ga..I called him 4 or 5 times, he finally called me on Monday and told me he had sold it.

It was a running joke that some new guy would pop up on here braggin bout this SWEET SS that he picked up in Naples for 300 bucks..Well young Starcrafter, you have fullfilled the prophecey..

That style of starcrafts are held in pretty high regard and not many people convert em to a center console..Anything I can do to help, just let me know..I'm no expert, but may be better than nuthin..

Oh sorry for your loss, I guess the Starcraft club will be flying their flags at half staff today in memory of a fallen SS...

Nismo, if you gutted it I would put a disclaimer notice on your post to all Starcraft owners that your post contains "graphic images not suitable to Starcraft club viewers"...

 Well I do hope he carefully removed all the parts that made it a SS and stacked them neatly to the side so someone else restoring one in future has some place to find missing parts. As long as he did this then there will be no need for disclaimers in the post. :eek:RIGHT!

Edd I am not a big believer in the Amulaweld Hocus pocus Snake medicine type products personally . I would say if you want it welded take it to someone who does Pontoonboat type repairs and get them to weld it up otherwise I would just plate it with alumnium and seal it up . I think from what I can see most of the problems are on the bottom of the hull so the plates wont be seen when she is in the water and will be hard to se when on the trailer . I would cut plates to fit spread #m 5200 over them place them on the hull and drill through them and the hull and rivet them on with closed end aluminum rivets and then make sure those areas got plenty of Gluvit on them when I flipped it back over. I would also put a bead of 5200 around the edge of the patches to blend them in some .

Edd heres my reply from earlier . Your boat came with a walk through windshield and side consoles if they were removed carefully they might allow someone else to convert a Holiday or other model into an ( SS ) Super Sport model which is what you started with.

ok just so everybody is clear on this.... i did remove them carefully and the windshield to.....however they weree in terrible shape and i think that they may have even came from another boat.... but in fear of not being able to complete the conversion to cc i was careful and did stak evrything nicely in the conrner.... so with that said when i am done this will be a pretty cool cc with something a little extra to whoa people. I hope

Edd good to hear you saved the special parts . That way if your center console works out the parts may be available for someone else to make a Super Sport. Let us know if you have any other questions or anything.

Re: seriously I need help with my STARCRAFT

Simple answer. Apply a barrier coat of gluvit to the bottom of the boat. It will prevent leaks and seal up galvanic corrosion.

Read up about it on the marinetex web site.... here is a quote

"Gluvit can be used to protect the outside of an aluminum gas tank. Gluvit is an excellent barrier coat system that encapsulates the metal to protect against corrosion and pitting."

Re: seriously I need help with my STARCRAFT

thanks bob first for the gluvit tip and second for editing my posts i do apreciate your advice...... i just have another question about the ss model......or any model starcraft for that matter...... the open bow? does it usually have seating????? and how many cc starcrafts are running around with rap around bow seats?

Re: seriously I need help with my STARCRAFT

I have an older SS and I have seen a few where there is wrap around seating in the bow with "little" leg room. I am in the process of rebuilding one and it was stripped when I got it of everything (seats, electric, lights, steering, windshield) and was just a bare hull with dual consoles.

If you want to go the CC route the remaining parts will be easy to sell. MatthewP (another former VT person) rebuilt his CC http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=299519&highlight=matthewp and this may give you some ideas. Matt used the gluvit to repair a section where battery acid ate into the aluminum.

Oh I wouldn't say the most coveted of Starcrafts are the SS models. I'd think the MOST coveted are the Sunchiefs:p:p:p

LOL no Sunchiefs are the rarest SS models I am pretty sure by checking with other members are still the most coveted :D.
