Should roughly 750 users online trigger a "servers are busy" message? I've been getting that a lot lately. I usually get through on the 2nd or 3rd refresh but I've not had this happen before.

It must depend on what they are doing. Just reading or actively posting or buying in the store?

It is the best forum for boaters I've found... I think they might be upgrading tho.

The store still works, when the forums are busy. It's just the forums that are having the problem.

Hmmmmm. I wonder if there is a priority system that makes sure store transactions go first?

Since I have been getting these "Server busy" reports, I have also noticed that when I hit the quick post icon, I get a quote of whatever post I hit ... I did not hit the quote to get this quote ... HMMMMM:confused::confused::confused:

Seems to happen more often after 2pm on my end, at 2:30 today it was unusable which was a hint that should probably leave work. :D

Surely different aspects of the site are running on separate machines.
Main store/transactions/image and file/forums. I sure hope it's not all rolled up into one machine. If it is we need to pass the collection plate and take donations for fire extinguishers and a new server or two.
I think the site is doing rather well with 800 feverish frustrated boaters and shoppers haphazardly clicking away all at the same time. Man ! That's Some Heat!

Ya isn't that the truth. Today it seem a little faster. I think it may have something to do with the adds on the side that are causing the page loading slower.

If it makes anyone feel any better, google seems to be having a problem with its gmail servers tonight - been trying to get in for a couple of hours! I keep getting a message that says "request-url too large."

I guess even the big guys have server gremlins from time to time.

Got to agree with that. Everything seemed slower yesterday evening on the net. Record numbers out here though.

Re: "servers are busy"

we have a new server just for the forums, it is just getting online. remember the days when this happen before, there were only 300 online. Admin is very much aware of this, and working furiously to correct it. we have been pushing 1,000 online at one time.

Re: "servers are busy"

I got that yesterday about 5:15 PM and there were 873 online at that time. It just depends on how many clicked at the same time, if enough hit close enough together that will happen. It makes it worse if there are a lot of photos being loaded in threads, I clicked on one this morning that my highspeed at work made me wait for them to load, I think they were twice the width of my 19" wide screen monitor, TD had already posted asking for a pic resize.

The new server is not online yet, and won't be for a few days. Admin and the IT guys are working on it.

Patience.

Re: "servers are busy"

Of the 1000 or so people on the site, about 700 are guests, 300 are members. The guests can't post or do searches, so I'm surprised at the "read only" toll they take. And except for the loaded pictures, all those linked in pictures come from the hosts servers (like photobucket), not iboats. So the impact is actually less than you might imagine. Still, I am surprised it slows down on a basically text message site.
