Re: Setting stringers with PL poly construction adhesive

I'm with Mark on this one. Assuming you use PB to bed the stringers in, the PB is basically 'glass and essentially becomes part of the hull once it's cured and there's plywood sitting on top of it. So just what has been accomplished with the bedding? I've always been under the impression that fiberglass will have the tendancy to flex and the stringers are there to prevent that. If you allow cushion between the hull and stringers aren't you allowing for flex which will eventually create stress cracks in the glass? Just a thought.

You may need to re-read some of the posts

The entire boat flexes, no way to get around that, what your trying to do is not create localized stress points or hard spots that will crack when it does. Using either method works to spread the load or eliminate these hard spots. It makes little difference whether the stringer is in full contact (PB) or no contact (foam or adhesive) the flex will be the same, the reason for this is the load is carried by the laminate either way. You can add slightly more glass making the strength of the plywood unnecessary if you want, then the wood is just a low cost form.
