Shifting into reverse is really hard

Seems hard shifting. Does it have the correct gear oil?

Yes replaced gear oil and have only had it out on lake once since

Yes I spin prop while changing gears I have looked at the parts diagram and watched videos of how all this works

The clutch dog is spring loaded to go into FORWARD.----As you try to shift to neutral and reverse it takes more and more effort as you compress this spring.-----Have one of these gearcases apart at this time!

So it should be harder going in to neutral from forward and from neutral to reverse, after pulling gear case and shifting the gears I thought it felt ok but I'm new to this world so I'm not real sure, I did find that the coupler nut that goes in between the shift rod form engine to the shift rod going into gear case was cross threaded on and it will not go back on very easy I have ordered a new one maybe this was not aligned correctly and was causing some issues?

How is the rest of the shifting apparatus now that the gearcase is off? Should be floppy. Very little resistance.

Everything seems free moving and floppy except the gear that pushes on the neutral safety switch on engine it does have quite a bit of resistance when engaging I might try and adjust it as well

Ok found the problem thanks chris1956 got me going in right direction with cleaning shift rod and looking for parts that are not moving freely. It want shift rod but close, the neutral safety gear on engine was getting stuck the bit of grease on the shaft that it slides on was all dried up and causing a lot of friction especially when going in reverse, I took all the linkage at top of shift rod off cleaned and greased not it shifts like it should easy in forward and reverse, put pics of the neutral safety gear and shaft I cleaned,thanks for all the help
