Hi forum Here are the Specs............mercruiser 260 Fresh repower
mercruiser 260 outdrive fresh impellar kit including impellar housing top and bottom.
When I pulled the the motor I put the throttle in fwd postion and pulled the drive, rebuilt the motor,
and replaced the impellar,
I had the shift fork in fwd like you're supposed too, put the drive back and all seemed fine. when I went to place the the nuetral it was hard to shift it go to nuetral and then went into reverse and now is STUCK in reverse at the helm and the prop is spinng FREELY at the leg.
What the heck did I do wrong??
Do I need to pull the drive again and start over?
and why Cant I get it out reverse at the throttle??
:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Id pull the drive and start from scratch. Sounds like you may have got the lower unit atached to the upper a tooth off on the shifter.

I suspect that the shifter slide has slipped off of the little wheel on the upper shift shaft arm. If the wheel popped out from between the two arms on the slide there is no linkage to pull it back into N or F. You should be able to slide the outdrive back and reconnect it. Pretty easy mistake to make, don't ask me how I know:redface: Good luck.

You can try this: Slide the outdrive back far enough so that the intermediate shift shaft uncouples from the upper shift shaft. Try to turn the intermediate shaft ccw. should go two "clicks" (N, R), if so your connection to the lower shift shaft should be OK (check by turning the prop). Put it all the way cw, and take a look at the shifter slide/ upper shift shaft connection. Should be one of the two.

Dang! Has to be either your control, control cable or shift cable. Try unhooking the lower shift cable at the engine end and see if it moves freely.

Well since the drive is our, might as well make sure it is OK. Turn the intermediate shift shaft all the way clockwise (F), should be pointed straight ahead, prop locks ccw and free cw, turn ss one notch ccw (N), prop free both directions, ss all the way ccw (R), prop locks cw free ccw. At least you know that is OK. Something anyway.

yeah the drive is working
shift fork pointing at @12 forward
shifting pointing @930 reverse
shift cable moves freely
but the throttle is still stuck in reverse at the helm:confused:

Well there is only two things left the control or the control cable. Don't know much about either. There is a control manual that you can download (adults only,#9, last on list), that should cover your handle. good luck.

it looks like the small roller pin inside the shifter is bent and I cant keep it inside the housing, it locked out or in I should say and held it in reverse, Im glad I wasnt on the water when that happened
