I am in a search for a few tips to shore my boat, this next summer I am planning some trips that are gonna be a over-nighter,now I am looking for a few tips on how to shore my boat (under 16 ft),I have made allowances for my transducer on a sliding pole that can be locked in use\not in use, but my vessel is about a 1,000 lbs with gear, motor's so dragging it up the beach is rather difficult to do,but unlike all my freinds ribbings and jokes,I dont want to repair the hull every year due to time and finance from the scraped hull from that "less than sandy beach"

but looking for tips to shore (?bow first? & to launch from the beach with out the ungracefull crawling overbow/windsheild after launching or falling in,crew is not to versed in running motor so I gotta drive.

is there a way to anchor my vessel say 10 15 feet from shore and NOT have to go swim for it,when its time to leave (anchor with pully ?)

seen the anchor-buddy,looking for alternative at this time.

Thanks

I was going to suggest the anchor buddy as I have one and like it but then I read the last line of your message. A friendly question: Why are you seeking an alternative?

If you don't want to crawl under the windsheild, get the anchor buddy attached to the bow eye, tie off a stern line, and when you're done unloading, put the boat in stern first 10' out.

You might be able to use a regular anchor line and then rig up some sort of pulley system, but that seems like a lot of work for an alternative.

baldguy

gotcha
just exploring all options & ideas before I give in and buy the thing..

did a great slider bar setup for transducer mount so when I shore boat(& I use elevator for dry storage),transducer wont get munched when I do shore boat and use some beach for lunch, sunset with wife, bathroom, kids run,camp...or worse case, sit out the tide or wrench time with motor.
(not neccicary in that order or more than 1 reason)

with that beach buddy, can ya pull over on formerly un-shorable areas & not damage boat?

next search is dealing with them rips and currents from tidal flow & currents..see next forum.

Thanks

Re: Shoring boat

I just drop a great anchor 150 feet off shore and with 5/16 nylon twisted line snug up the the bow line 20 feet from shore. Run two stern lines to shore in a V shape again with nylon twisted line. To get off the boat pull on the stern lines and pull boat to shore. The strech in the nylon line will let you pull to shore and get off. When you let go of the roap the strech will pull boat right back out 20 feet. 20 feet is about max with 150 feet of line.

Re: Shoring boat

Crazy_Amish,

Sorry didn't post back sooner....been off work.

Anyway...Yes, you can pull the boat up to an unshorable beach without damage to the boat. It takes a few trys intially to figure out when to put the anchor in compared to distance to shore. Once you have that down, it's nothing to use it from then on.

You can get the boat just to the point of where it's going to be touching the shore....rocks, sand, whatever. Jump out and hold the boat and I usually have someone take the bow line and tie it off on shore. Then I can off load the kids, and whatever else I've got to get out of the boat.

Then I take the bow line and let out a little line until the boat is about 10' from shore. This keeps my outdrive safe from hitting the bottom, which happens if you just beach it, and keeps the bottom of the boat off the sand or rocks or whatever and I'm safe from wakes.

Now I have a relatively small boat which is an 18' Baja Open Bow. I'm not sure how this anchor buddy would work on a bigger boat.

Dave
