Hi folks. My first new thread here on the forum and a newbie to working on outboards. I've already learned alot here just by reading random posts. I have two Vintage Johnson Outboards. One is a 1962 5.5HP Sea Horse Model CDL-19 Long Shaft. The other is a 1965 6HP Sea Horse Model CD-22M Short Shaft. The towers and gear casings look identical except for the spacer plate in the long shaft motor. Is it possible to remove the drive shaft, shift lever, water tube and the spacer plate from the 1962 long shaft motor and put them onto the 1965 short shaft motor to make it a long shaft?
I ordered a repair manual for the '65 motor but it hasn't arrived yet. Hoping it will be here by the weekend so I can tear into it. From other posts it sounds like an easy job if I have the right parts. Will I need any gaskets or O-rings?
