On the boat...out on the boat. (I'll clear that up before rumors get started).

It's soooooo hot, or at least it's been stinkin' hot for the past 3 weeks and I don't feel like doing absolutely anything. My boat is just sitting there, wondering what the heck is going on and why we aren't out riding the waves, but man. Is it because I'm getting old? Does anybody else ever feel like it's too hot to take the boat out? I know some of you guys are still waiting on the weather to break, but down here in the Clearwater, Florida area, we've had heat and humidity and zero rain for sooooo long that it's already starting to weigh on me and it's only June. Not even the middle of June!

As a point of information, it's been 92-93 every day for the past month and humidity has got to be near 90% if not higher. If you've ever been to Florida in August, you'll know what I'm talking about. I know you out west guys will talk about 105, but wet??
Go ahead, tell me if I'm just being a big sissy. I've also got a list of things that I need to get done this weekend but I can't seem to get myself up and going. Am I the only one out here this way:confused:

Heck, if I went out to bail hay, I wouldn't make it 10 minutes I don't think. Funny though, I've spent many 14 hour days out in it working when I was a young lad, once I crossed the 45th birthday plateau, however, different story.

I know exactly where you are coming from.
It's a bit different here as the reason we bought a boat was the high temperatures.
Having said that, it was 45c (117F) on Friday and just prepping the boat at home was hard work and while I was doing it I did think that I couldn't be bothered.
However, we drove the 30 minutes to launch and had a fantastic day on the water.
Sometimes, as we get older we just need to make a bit more effort to do things and prioritise what we do.
I wold suggest that going out on your boat is a priority.
Nothing beats the serenity and calm after a hard week.
It really is all I look forward to.
emoney, pick yourself up man and get out there.
I bet you'll regret not going come bedtime.

Love the hot days.... Hotter the better for the boat.. If you get too hot, you jump into the water.
It's this stupid Wisconsin weather that gets me.
high 90s last week to low 60's now..

It can be uncomfortable in a dark colored, camoflage aluminum jonboat on hot sunny days the flat decks will burn bare skin . I try to go in the morning or evening to fish when its hot,or beach the boat and wade the banks to fish sometimes. A dunk and a quick trip to the next spot will dry/cool you off for a while.

I feel you pain, I am located in North MS, and it has not truly rained for about 2.5 weeks now. It can get miserable quick. When I am ready to go fishing I go, but if I plan a trip it is either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Heck at 2am it is still 80 degrees with about 80% humidity.

It went from winter to summer in about two weeks, there was no spring this year. It is going to be one heck of a summer.

now if I could just get my pos boat going it would be in better spirits.

Haha, I spent awhile yesterday looking for anything I could trailer to within a 3 hour drive today.
There was no where to hide. This is what my area radar looked like around 7 AM this morning.
I rolled over and went back to bed. Temps have dropped from 92 a few days ago to 58 today!
Going to try again Sunday. Forecast now says locally 30% chance of rain. I'll take a shot at the Hudson River because if you can look at a glass of water and say it's half full then a 30% chance of rain is a 70% chance that it won't rain :D I like those odds!

7:15 AM today radar the entire region is covered in rain:

I don't boat much, if at all, between July and October here. Just too danged hot. 95* at night and 110+* during the day.

They say it's a "dry heat". Yah, so is sticking your head in a lit gas grill.;)

I've been going out later in the day and enjoying the evenings during this recent hot spell (95+). If someone wanted to go earlier in the day, I would, but spend a good bit of time in the water.

We have had little choice but to fish in 90+ degree heat so far, even though that can drain the crap out of us. But what else can you do when you have rain almost every day in the spring??? We HAD NO SPRING.....
We fish early, use the top when we have to, or scramble for what little shade we can find. On our local lake shade is hard to find except on the far side and not until mid afternoon. We got lucky last week though and found a shady spot with plenty of fish in it so I guess the fish are running from the heat too!:p

Kinda jealous of the folks who can just jump in the water. I mostly fish in rivers and I'm not jumping in any of them. With my little 9.8hp, the Lake I need to get across would take a good 40 minutes, and I still highly doubt I would ever jump out in the water. It never really gets too hot to fish here. Flip up the top, open something cold to drink, drop a line and I'm good. Too windy for my little boat, yeah. Too hot, not too often.

I don't understand this.

The hotter it gets, the more I want to be on the boat.

I hear that fat people float easily, but as a skinny guy, Ive perfected what I call 'the otter float'.

Take this guy for instance... Now, put a beer on his belly, instead of a clam or whatever they eat, and maybe remove a bit of hair, and you've got me on any hot spring/summer day.

Yeah that's alittle too hot. Its 61 and rainy in northern ohio right now. But are here we have a saying" if you don't like the weather, wait 30 minutes and it will change".

I have no desire to go boating for the sake of going boating on hot days. It?s much more enjoyable and relaxing to just hang out by the pool in the back yard. No worries about water-borne pathogens and the beer keg is only as couple of steps away.

Re: Should I be feeling guilty for not being "out"?

No, I surely do not do well at 90 degrees and above when the humidity is drenching the air, every small effort squeezing me dry, pouring sweat off my forehead into my eyes, dripping from the tip of my nose. Arms and hands drenched, slippery like a wet fish, not being able to grip anything, everything wanting to slip from my hand. I wipe my eyes onto my my short sleeve until its damp and I have to resort to a towel to dab of the sweat rivers and beads that form 20 seconds of the last swipe of the towel. I can't think clearly and feel like I don't want to move. It's awful! Horrendous! :(

However... When I'm on the water and there's cool, cool water all around, I put on my swim fins and do what soggy-feet does, chug around the boat like an otter on my back. When I'm done, I sit in my Swimways lounge chair in the water and relax with a Corona Lite, watching and participating in the boating life. There's no better time than on a hot, hot, muggy day with a 90% + wet bulb.

I say if you feel guilty than it's because you want to go. So you need to thank about going the fist chance you get.

That's its. He's knocked the nail on the head.

Get out there Saturday no matter what. Like I said, sometimes we need to make a touch more effort.

Thread closed, nothing more to talk about, sorted:)
