should i buy

i can buy a 1980 sea king 9.9 for $275 or a sears eska 7.5 not sure of the year for $200. both are said to run great. should i hold out for better a brand name or are these good motors. are there parts available and does anybody have any advice?

Sound very high for both. I would keep looking. I bought an 86 9.9 Johnson last year with electric start and controls for $350. The deals are out there just not now in the peak of the season. I'd row before I gave $200 for an Eska.

$200 for a 7.5hp Eska in excellent shape is not a bad deal. They're reliable powerplants, and unfortunately seem to have garnered a bad reputation from those who are not very familiar with them or who have never owned one.

Heck, if you bought an Eska, you might still be rowing. Lord knows I did often enough. :D

Thanks guys, i think you just saved me some money. i talked to the local marine shop and he told me the same thing you told me. stay away from both those motors.

Both are good motors. I'd personally try to talk him down though.
