i can buy a 1980 sea king 9.9 for $275 or a sears eska 7.5 not sure of the year for $200. both are said to run great. should i hold out for better a brand name or are these good motors. are there parts available and does anybody have any advice?
Sound very high for both. I would keep looking. I bought an 86 9.9 Johnson last year with electric start and controls for $350. The deals are out there just not now in the peak of the season. I'd row before I gave $200 for an Eska.
$200 for a 7.5hp Eska in excellent shape is not a bad deal. They're reliable powerplants, and unfortunately seem to have garnered a bad reputation from those who are not very familiar with them or who have never owned one.

Thanks guys, i think you just saved me some money. i talked to the local marine shop and he told me the same thing you told me. stay away from both those motors.
