Please excuse the total newbie question.... But, I see that almost every boat has a name. Is it bad luck not to have one? Someone explain the naming to me..... Thanks in advance.
Sure, why not? Keep it simple, keep it personal and obtuse. Great way to drum up conversation at the launch. Would you put personalized plates on your vehicle?
I haven't named mine. We have talked about it but never settled on a name. It doesn't seem to be a big deal. I see lots of boats without names around here. I would never get personalized plates so maybe that explains my lack of interest in naming my boat. We just call it Grandpa's boat or Mark's boat. I had a little 3 year old in it once and as we took off it blew his hat in the drink. I quickly pulled over and fished it out but he started saying "don't like 'Mark's boat'" and that name kind of stuck.
I am going to name mine. On the marine radio I don't want to say "Coast Guard this is the 1998 Boston Whaler Outrage 18" stuck in the middle of the ocean. I just does have the same sound as saying "Coast Guard this is the Laura Croft". I bet I would get better response also.
With paint like that you are almost obligated to name it.
Take your time, something will come to you, I like Bob Segar and I catfish so I named mine Catmendo, now every time I hear that song I get an overwhelming urge to go fishing.
