Re: Should of bought a V6...
LMAO!!!
Told you lots of people got it wrong!
From Dictionary.com:
From Dictionary.com:
"Gear Ratio" is simply the numerical ratio between two gears (or a complete gear train).
"Gearing" refers to the sequence of gears that you assemble to transmit power at some desired level of torque or RPM. You trade RPM for torque. For example, if you need twice the RPM, you will have half the torque.
LOW GEAR refers to a low RPM, high torque final output. This is a HIGH RATIO.
HIGH GEAR refers to a high RPM, low torque final output. This is a LOW RATIO.
From Wikipedia:
See how LOW GEAR (1st) has a HIGH RATIO (2.97:1)?
Notice how HIGH GEAR (6th) has a LOW RATIO (0.56:1)?
GEARING and GEAR RATIOS are definitely not the same thing. If you go to someone and tell them that you want your truck geared LOWER for more pulling power, they're going to put HIGHER RATIO gears into the rear end.
When your car is in HIGH GEAR, the transmission is using LOW RATIO gears to turn the driveshaft.

From Dictionary.com:
gear ratio
?noun Machinery. 1. the ratio of the rotational speeds of the first and final gears in a train of gears or of any two meshing gears.

Corvette gearing example:
A 2004 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 with a six-speed manual transmission has the following gear ratios in the transmission:
Gear________ Ratio
1st ________ 2.97:1
2nd ________ 2.07:1
3rd ________ 1.43:1
4th ________ 1.00:1
5th ________ 0.84:1
6th _________ 0.56:1
