haveing a few issues all at once, but hope to peel away and isolate for questions.

yesterday the starter wasnt turning fast enough to make spark, in the morning at 0 degrees. but later after charging the battery and it warming up to 28 degrees it did start.

now today the motor was sounding like it was missing now and then. While motoring i slowed and put the shift lever in nuetral and the motor sounded like it was going to die..but before i could move it back into gear...thus giving it more gas as well...it did die!! for a second, but once i pushed forward..it started again..

it did this three seperate times...

yesterday i did pull the yellow/black lead off the iginition switch, in an attempt to isolate a no spark issue...but i put it fully back on!!!

just thought Id mention that.

my motor eventually died, and I could not restart...dont know if it was the weakend starter...or this newer issue...

had to run the kicker to come home!!

two questions...what could cause the motor to die going to nuetral, but make it come back to life by giving it throttle( after it turns off!!)

also, what part of the starter needs to be replaced-rebuilt, so that it spins faster, to make a more powerful spark???( my mechanic gave me a test to check this...all plugs in, the spark wont jump my spark tester..but all the plugs out and the spark jumps 7/16ths")

I dont want to spend $280 on a starter just yet

thanks

Take your started in to a auto shop that rebuilds starters, alternators ect. I usually get charged 35 $ To 50 for outboard rebuilds.

Is it getting the full 12.65 volts at the starter while cranking? As stated, they are really not that expensive to rebuild if need be, be I would ensure first that a rebuild is in deed in order. If you are getting the 12.65V, and still having issues getting it to spin, rebuild it.

Regarding your other issue, I would think that you are either running lean, due to a slow speed restricted jet, or maybe some sort of short in the remote control?? Did you notice any cut/chafed wires when testing the kill wire?

I'd have the battery load tested and then clean and tighten all the connections on both the battery and the mtr.

I am gonna look more closely at this, because i never had issues before like this and i did recently unmount the control and pull the black-yellow wire for a test...it went back fully on..and the control was not dissconnected, just unmounted from the console and i pulled the cover off . I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary.

as for the starter, thats a good idea. I have an extra that i could rebuild right away and then switch out... I was hoping to line up all possiblilities for when i take the cowl off....dont want to do the starter and reinstall the cowl, only to find that i need to take it off again to solve the elecrical issue with the motor shutting off...

thanks
