1) where can i get teak wood? I just need a small amount for a small boat
2) whats the best vinyl to use and wheres the best place to get it online (for seats and side pads)
3) Is there anyplace online that I can send small pieces to, to have them re-covered for a good price (not rebuilt, just a new cover sewn if i send the old one)
4) Is new carpet just applied with spray adhesive in a can?

1988 Thunder Craft, doing a budget interior restoration. Getting rid of the two lounge seats (comfy but old as hell, don't work and have rips) and putting mid-grade folding fishing (not the super cheap plastic ones) seats back to back on a box, much like the lounge seats.

Usually the local marine store (West Marine) will have small amounts of Teak Wood . . .

Nautolex is the 'best' vinyl in the whole wide world (IMHO) you can buy it online. (Gary's Upholstery is where I got some a few years ago) Otherwise, Google your way to a good source.

It may be best to find a local auto upholstery shop

Look for water-proof adhesive for the carpets, others may have better advice . . . I only do snap-in carpets.

I've had good results adhering carpet and vinyl with 3M 90 spray. You can find it anywhere for around $15 a can.

i'm located in SE wisconsin and do have a west marine within 20 minutes if need be, and ******** now has free shipping so that helps. I've asked an ebay seller who specialized in naughtohyde (or whatever it is) the furry backed vinyl to send me samples of the grays, so i'll see how thick it is compared to whats currently on the boat. I can do the majority of the wrapping of the wall pieces, its just certain seats i don't know if i can do it... though i'm going to borrow my sisters sewing machine and give it a try..,

Kendor Marine in Franklin WI. This place has everything. Wire by the foot, stainless steel nuts and bolts, aftermaket end caps, nose caps, you name it they have it.They also have services like upholstery, they can bend tubing for bow rails too.

Lot's of DIY upholstery help here on the forum. You will need a Zipper foot if you are going to do Piping for your seats. Lots of Youtube vids to help you with learning how to setup your machined and do the various stitches. I did my seats and they turned out really good. Had never sewn a stitch before now.
Ebay has Lots of Teak wood listed.

so if i use naguhyde or whatever its called, whats the best needle and thread to use and can a basic sewing machine handle this task?

edit: i read your "upholstering" post and saw size 18 and v69. Is v92 thicker? Not sure what the numbers mean

make sure you use marine vinyl. Naugahyde is a trade name (a division of Michelin)

You need 30 oz marine vinyl, size 18 or 20 Leather/Upholstery needles and the v69 thread. No need to worry about anything else. The supplier I provided has about the best prices you'll find. Schmetz needles are some of the best. You'll need a heavy duty industrial machine. I tried a standard Kenmore and it worked but barely. I bought a heavy duty MORSE brand for $75 on Craigslist and it sews 6 layers of vinyl like butter.

The naugahyde stuff is usually listed as marine vinyl, is it actually marine quality? and what is v92 thread, is that thicker than v69?

v92 is a heavier weight thread typically used with #20 needles. You can use it if you want but not necessary. v69 is ok with #18 or #20 needles and plenty strong for Marine upholstery work. Your boat...Your Choice. Just remember larger thread, more powerful machine required. Same with material, heavier material, more powerful machine required. Sooo... as I previously posted 30oz material with v69 thread and a Heavy Duty Machine will work just fine.

Well I was able to find a 1955 Morse super dial in mint condition on CL for 50 bucks with original box, accories and manuals. Cant wait to try it

very similar to my machine. Make sure and give her a good cleaning and oiling. I did NOT and she gave me fits. Once I cleaned her and oiled her and replaced the belt... She worked liked a new one. I can sew through 6 layers of 30oz vinyl with no issues. Practice on getting the top tension and bobbin tension adjusted for various layers of vinyl. Write it down for future reference. Let us know if you have questions.

thanks. My brother was giving me a hard time because he was going to give me an old plastic singer, but i figured these old steel machines would be a lot tougher... at the very least built hardier..... am i correct in thinking that?

I got mine on eBay. Measure the circumference and then order it. I think mine was 14 1/2 " V-Belt Singer still makes one that fits the Morse perfectly.
