Re: Slickcraft SS160V Project

yep, made those clamps from scratch. Used 2x3x16" stud wood. 3/8 x 6" carrage bolts w/ wingnuts, hex nuts and flat washers. Holes drilled oversize except for hole square head of carrage seats. Real cheap and works well. Those two aluminum C clamps in photo are about 40 years old, were my dads.

I will be glassing entire stringers w/ matt and epoxy.

I note that others have added spars perpendicular to stringers in their projects. What type of wood did ya'll use? I'm thinking to use 1x2 white oak, soaked w/ cpes to seal and protect from rot.
Any opinions?

Re: Slickcraft SS160V Project

I glued ply to existing stringers with US Composits (USC)thick 1:1 epoxy. I will then treat with RotDocs CPES. Then glass w/ USC sewn matt and thin 2:1 epoxy resin. Floor ply will be pretreated w/ CPES, then glued & screwed to stringers, etc. Then glass cloth over top of ply floor and finnish paint.

I did call rotdocs asking about processes. Their reply is pretreat with CPES is prefered before glueing with epoxy. However, treating after glueing, as I'm doing WILL NOT effect cured epoxy. In fact, they recommend CPES as a primer so to speak, over existing glass cloth floored boats, for example, when using their two part floor finnishes.

Their rotdoc epoxy sure sounds like the best to use, however I chose USC epoxy due to cost and 'cause rotdoc says CPES is compatable with all other EPOXY (not poly)
Hope this helps--BTW--I found lottsa good info here at Iboats by using search function for specific questions--ie--is fir or pine ply prefered and why--(douglas fir is the way to go)

couldn't find any info though on how to levitate!! :D crawling around inside the hull is a killer on my 45 year old joints :(

New stringer wood laminated to existing fair/questionable condition stringers. New wood soaked w/ rotdocs CPES. Next step is glass matt applied fully to stringers.
Am running out of fair weather, gonna have to button 'er up for winter soon.
Any one have experience using low temperature epoxies???
thanks, however, please recognize that i am new to board here. i came here in wanton need of knowledge.

and, (excuse caps) JasonJ Skanky Beast Project is and was a huge guide to how i approached how i persued this projy. JJ beast projy was most receint deal that i picked up upon. may have been others prior, however this persons is kinda what i followed advice from.

and furthermore, follow JJ advice that no matter what, cover the **** boat to protect from elements, and mine and others deal to use the search function to find info regards whatcha need to know--- and---check out the page links above to find the fittings or stuff you ain't going to find localy, ie-- anyone know whats a "garboard fitting" (is a brass flange fitting for water handling, etc, i need two for the bildge pumper i need to install)

Spring weather is on its way. Am suffering serious cabin fever and real anxious to get back to work on the Slikker.
Sure wish I had 10K or so to build a workshop to do these restos.
God, I envy those in warmer climes or who have nice spacious workshops. :(
