Capitol One credit card statement comes every month at the same time and I pay it as soon as it arrives. Suddenly this month it is late? I called Cap one thinking it was lost in the mail and they said that the billing cycle was changed by 5 days on all their cards.

That equates to 5 additional days of interest on that billing cycle. Sneaky way to raise profits.

I fired Capitol one years ago, for such crap.
I am in the process of firing Bank of America right now; they want to give credit cards to criminal illegals.

If I am not mistaken, they calculate interest based on the average daily balance. If you pay what you normally pay on the same day you normally pay it, the interest (and the avg daily balance) should be exactly the same, regardless of their arbitrary cutoff date.

I am not an expert on this, and perhaps a banker will enlighten us, but I believe that is how it works.

Re: Small Rant

If you pay it off every month there is no interest. Ooops, there should be no interest. If you only pay part of it, then there is interest.

I fired Capitol One over an unannounced boost in interest several years ago. I also don't like their slick "no hassle" commercials. There is some sort of LIE hidden in all that bombast.

Re: Small Rant

I pay my bill off in full every month. I have a great way of doing it I'll share, and hopefully maybe someone can benefit.

What I do is treat every credit card transaction like a debit card transaction, I keep my balance by taking the money out in my check register just like I'd used my debit card. Do that each time. When the time comes to write the check at the end of the month all you have to do is check your check register against the credit card bill, and if they are the same, write the check, but since you kept the balance up, you don't need to deduct the money from your account, you did that during the month by subtracting your balance as the month progressed! You just cut the check and you're done. This method ensures that you don't spend money you don't have as you simply don't put so much on your card to make your balance go below zero! It's a fail-safe method! You pay off your balance in full every month but you still get to use your card like you want. I've had a card for about 6 years and used this method and paid it off every month. My credit score is now over 800.

I use one of those cards that pays you 1% cash back at the end of the year, so my christmas presents are paid for during the year by just using my credit card! I don't take the gift certificates, I opt for the check.

Re: Small Rant

Its a ploy all of them use to get you to default on the agreement. You default on just one payment and they get to stick the big intrest rate on you. They did that to me and caused all my other cards to follow suit. Got rid of Captihole as soon as I could.

Don't be late or you'll get that nasty rate

Something needs to be done about "Big Credit". Perhaps an "excessive profits tax" on "Big Credit":D
