Smart Tabs Question

A pair of smart tabs for the ol' 'Ray is on the Xmas list.
My application calls for the ST1290-80 model.
I see Nauticus has a ProTroller adapter but is only available for the 60 and 40 series.
Should I use the ST1290-60 tabs, will the 60 series ProTroller work on the 80 series tabs, or should I just continue to throw a 5 gallon bucket out the back?
I probably wouldn't get much use out of the ProTroller feature. It looks like there is only one mounting point for the top of the cylinder on the Protroller as opposed to two on the standard tabs. Seems like strength would suffer which might be more important.

Which way to go?
(Boat is 19' SeaRay SRV190 w/170hp 4.3 & OMC Cobra.)

You might should call or email nauticus, it looks like you need the 60's, not the 80's. The chart is confusing. I thought I needed the 80's, but they recommended the 60's and I went with the SX without the protroller and they are great for me.

I see our boats are very similar setups.
What differences did you notice?
Mine is probably a bit heavier.
I wonder how much of a factor weight is (?).

The smart tabs are awesome. Everything that I was hoping they would do actually happened. Lower on plane speed, no bow rise, fixed the porpoising problem, even fixed the low speed steering issue.

Your boat is a better built boat than mine, I am sure it is heavier. I am not sure how that plays into smart tab selection. Just by looking at the chart, the biggest factor seems to be motor weight on the rear and length.

If you use the better nauticus chart, it shows a 19' boat being right at the dividing line between 60's or 80's. Going by hp and length, it shows 80's, but then they added the special line for I/O's, and it shows 60's for a 6 cyl I/O and 18+ feet. That is why I emailed them to get an exact recommendation.

Sorry this took so long. I have been unable to visit the site regularly in the recent weeks. The ST1290-60 or the PT1290-60 will work very well. The advantage of the PT is ease of use, so long as you do not have a swim platform in the way.

UUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.
Just checked out thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=285605 which has tabs installed on 'Ray.
Looks like my swim platform is going to be an issue and this is more important. I've made the kids, wife and friends climb up the OD for years! Not the safest way to go. Not to mention me hanging off the OD clearing crab trap lines from the prop in wake. It took me several years to find a decent teak platform (for cheap) and lovingly restored it. Custom made SS hardware - still have to do the top rails. Not to mention drilling holes in the transom which is simply painful and against my nature. The swim platform stays!

Is is possible....or practical....
I'd hate to do it, but the thought came to mind...
To cut the swim platform so as to have the piston come through for mounting.
The platform is mounted a couple/few inches above the outboard chine...say in between the blue and red in the above post. It would clear the tab mount on the bottom. Mounting the cylinder is going to be the issue.

It took me a while to get some pics.
I'm afraid the swim platform is going to be an issue.
Am I correct?
The swim platform stays.
What can I do.

There was another young man that posted some pics of his Searay SRV190 a couple months ago. I'm trying to search for it. He had Smart tabs on the back of his which had some good shots of the the mounts.

It's a little newer - the gunnels have more angle, but that doesn't matter. It looks like the height is the issue.
Opinions?
It appears at worst, I might have to notch the swim platform (?).

I also had a clearance issue with a swim platform. i was able to solve it by mounting the smart tab air springs at a more acute angle which reduced the overall height needed on the transom and was able to shoehorn the smart tabs in under the platform. I don't know if you are still looking at tabs but I was checking out your thread and I realized you were talking about my SRV190. Lol. After looking at your pics and comparing them to mine. I think it would be a close fit for the tabs. Seeing the actual boat might make a difference but from the pics it looks close. If you want me to measure anything or if you need any info let me know.

We have added another mounting hole for the trim plate bracket which allows you to minimize the height down to 7.5" from the bottom of the hull to the top of the transom bracket.

Check this out on our web site under "installation" then go to assembled drawings ST1290.

I have a 2007 21' Four Winns 210 Horizon with a 5.0L Volvo/Penta I/O. I was wanting to get a hydrofoil for it however Volvo redesigned the cavatation plate to be an exhaust and will not take a hydrofoil. I have been looking at the Smart Tabs SX and am wondering if anyone out there who has a Four Winns hull design that has these tabs and if they are worth getting? The hull design allegedly has a tab type bottom in the stern however I have not noticed it help in anyway.

You can use either the SX9510-80 Composite Tabs or the ST1290-80 Stainless Steel Tabs.

From a performance veiw point you should search Smart Tabs on this site for comment in the forums or the forums listed on our site under "Testimonials".

Side note: do not use Smart Tabs and any other fixed trim device (ie: hydrofoils) together.
