So I've decided that snow is cool maybe once or twice a year. Mainly because I walk outside and see this on my boat!

Now I know this may not look like a lot to some but for central Texas its a blizzard! lol Dallas got it even worse and I think they're still getting hit. Fricoboater probably can fill us in on that. BTW cleaning snow off of things is no fun. I want my 70 degree winter back now! Can't wait til summer!

Yeah, this is what we had after about half had melted.

Very happy with the Sunbrella cover.

Nothing like growing up in Michigan or living in Faibanks, AK, but it's enough to shut things down.
The rolling blackouts yesterday were a joy, too.

It's got to make it exciting for Super Bowl travellers.

Yeah, here around Austin we had to rolling blackouts too but ours were on Wednesday. We didn't have any yesterday thankfully. I'm a native Texan so this is about the most snow I've seen lol. That cover held up really well! They say its supposed to be nice for the Super Bowl, but you know how right weather men are all the time......

I have 3' of snow in my yard you are more than welcome to!

Tis winter has been a real turd so far, lots of snow and really cold.

I got spoiled the last couple years because it has been so mild here, 4-5 years ago I went fishing at least once every month which is unheard of here in Indiana.

Ah, that's right. The blackouts were on Wednesday, the first 15 minutes of the odd hours. My days are all messed up this week.
By Thursday, I swear I could hear boat motors cracking all over Central Texas.

Wow..you guys actually have pics of a snowfall with Grass still showing on the ground LOL..

( Welcome to Detroit area ) In some cases when fueling up your vehicle you cant see oncoming traffic due to snow plow pileups on the sidewalk !

My front yard has Mounds of snow .. too bad its too frinking cold to go out there making snowman ( actually more like snowman Familiy with cousins and stuff LOL ) to play with the kids. Kinda sad actually having all this wonderous white frosty rain that you cant play with :) .

A bit more than 5" in Richardson this morning, thankfully it was light, dry stuff that swept off the new iBoats cover really easily before heading off to work. Now the ice and sleet from earlier in the week was a little tougher to knock off of there.

Oh I know. I grew up in West Michigan and spent three years in Korea and three in Fairbanks, AK. The 3" of snow here shut everything down. My wife the teacher got a "snow day". I was listening to Dallas radio and the frustrated host got tired of people asking if (whatever) was closed. Yes, everything is closed.

I wanted to get in the truck just to watch the carnage, but decided that I really don't need to be replacing the tow vehicle right yet.
It's like the first snow up north x10, when you weed out the morons.:D

Way out west in Lubbock, Tejas, we only got about 4 inches of snow...but brutal cold and relentless wind with it. Great thing is this is a college town (Texas Tech), so we have clueless drivers from downstate trying to drive normally (50 to 70 mph in a 35 or 40 zone)...which makes a morning icy commute a real joy. Old blue, my 69 F250 never flinched and did well on the icy/snowy roads...course I was rockin along at a whopping 20-22 mph...just honked and waved as I passed the cell-phone/texting/yak-asses that did a 180 and went off the road right after they sped past Old blue. Two or three days of sunshine and warmer temps ahead, but more snow/cold forecast for middle of next week.

I know what you mean about the texting fools. I was crusin at about 25 mph in my 4x4 dually as people wouls pass me, start to skid and then slow down to about 10 mph...that'll learn em! I'm not looking forward to the middle of next week though. I've had enough of the snow and ice

Re: Snow in Texas!!

We get about 4 or 5 snowfalls a winter here in Eastern Washington State. Rarely over 6" at a time and usually does not stay around for more than a week. Therefore, I just make due with a simple support pole under my boat cover. I just have to pay close attention and sweep it off before any real accumulation happens. 15 years this has worked for me. But as you all know, there always the chance of the freak 100 year snow event caused by global warming.:p

Oh, and how about a shameless plug for my iboats boat cover! Works great. Love it.

Re: Snow in Texas!!

Here are some pics of the snow that we had in Waco. Not the most that I've ever seen here, but enough to close all of the schools and govt offices.

The front shot of my boat shows 2" of snow over my blue carpet.

We got another 6" and from what I just saw on the weather chanel it looks like we may get another 3" to 5" more before all is said and done :(

Re: Snow in Texas!!

BoatCop,

I'm on Lake Waco. I live 15 minutes from the lake so I'm on the boat for at least a few minutes everyday just checking things out. I bought the boat from a fella on Lake Travis in September, so this houseboating thing is all new to me. I grew up ocean fishing with a small 17 foot boat and a 40 HP Evinrude, but that was a long time ago.

Right now outside my front door we have 16" of the white stuff on the ground. I am a few miles south of Detroit. The more snow we have the better the Great Lakes water levels will be this season. Let it snow, let it snow. I'm loving it.

I used to live in Waco when I went to TSTC and used to go over the lake pretty regularly (don't remember which road it is that goes over the lake. I didn't know it was that big though. I was surprised to see the big docks in your picture. I've wanted to make it out there to go camping or something. Are there any cabins out there or any nice aminities?

Re: Snow in Texas!!

Hwy 6, the Twin Bridges, is the highway that goes over the lake to Speegleville Park. There aren't any cabins for rent, I guess since it is a Corp of Engineers Lake. Youi now have to pay to get into the park or to launch a boat. There are campsites and pavillions for rent, but I have no idea what they charge.

One thing that is lacking is a full service marina. I hate to think what I'm going to have to pay if I ever need to have my engine replaced. One fellow houseboat owner said that some folks pay to have their boat hauled to Austin to have engine replacement or bottom work done.
