Well it's over. No milk, bread or peanut butter left on any supermarket shelves. The weather forecasters failed once more. They said 5". We got nothing that could even be measured. Hey Zopperman, I don't know what part of Philly your in but I drove around looking for snow and I couldn't find any.

Well they say "misery loves company".....I do not feel so bad after reading your stories today since I saw our forecast this morning. 15 to 25 cms of snow and 110 km winds....just lovely !...I did put my studded snow tires on my truck yesterday and tarped my boat over . I live in the Long Range mountains in Newfoundland and we have about 10 cms of the white stuff already......hard to take after just returning from 2 weeks in sunny Orlando!

I had to remove at least three inches of snow , that had iced over with rain, from my truck today. I live less than 13 miles north of the center of Philadelphia.

It looks as if northern Ohio has missed getting snow this October. Our docks close on the 15th and I remember that several times it snowing just a few days afterwards. Snow is not unusual in these parts. It was a bit cold here this morning. Heavy frost and 26*F . It did make it to 52 this afternoon. Its a good thing though, Al Gore says its several million degrees just a few feet under the ground :D This is a good way to keep it cool.........SS

We had something like 10" to 12", with LOTS of downed trees, broken branches, and downed power lines. Running on generator, and may be doing so for a couple of days.

Coming back from a CG Auxiliary course yesterday, I-84 was a disaster. I've never seen so many semis off the road.

I believe we set all kind of records this weekend for snow and temps.

Got around 12.5 inches here. I think 71% of the state was without power, upwards of 800,000 people. Luckily I have power, but my fiances family has kind of moved in. 6 extra people and 2 extra dogs staying for up to a week if not more (depending how quick powers back). Winterized the boat Saturday morning, which was last minute, but it only came out of the water a week before.

There was a LOT of trees down (probably 75% around my area with some kind of damage) and it looked like a war zone around here. But alas I'm at work going about normal life, haha.

So I guess this means boating season is over on the East Coast?

Best wishes to all with damage and or no power.

HMMMMMM, Sunny and 85* (above-0*F) today! Down from 600* (felt like), a month ago.
I recall, Minnesota, fall of '91'. 29" on Halloween-OH Joy! I ran through five gallons of gas on an eight horse snowblower, in one weekend!

I remember seeing snow drifts on July of '92'. Bad/Bad summer following.

I drove down from VT to go to a wedding in Middletown last weekend. Flurries started just south of Albany, and by the time I got to Newburgh, there was almost no visibility, and cars eating guardrails every 1/4 mile.

When I turned off of 87 onto 84, I remembered I was sitting in a 4x4, kicked her into 4, and put the hammer down. Only thing slowing me down was the other cars on the road.

No rigs off the road at that point, or at least on that stretch. I got to Middletown around 5:30-6pm. My cousin wasnt so lucky, she sat at a standstill for over an hour somewhere around the Newburgh-Beacon bridge.

Good luck getting your power back!

It's the false confidence that 4wd can allow a crappy driver to drive in adverse conditions like they drive on dry summer roads.

"drive to the conditions" doesn't necessarily mean 20mph, unless you're the type to panic and stand on the brakes as soon as the car starts to lose traction....

Here's my other rig, which handles corners at 50mph on a sheet of ice...

Is that a tow strap on the front?

BTW -- my parents are STILL without power and there are a ton of road closures and downed trees...

Yeah, tow strap on the front.

There's no hook on the back to attach it to, so I looped it thru the eye on the front to pull my friends Tacoma out of the driveway after a snowstorm last winter. Jerking the strap bent the bracket out and up, pinching the strap against the body of the car, so there it sat until I accidentally drove over it one day fraying the webbing of the strap essentially destroying it.

Those cars are tanks. Torquey 5 cylinder, and locking differentials, center and rear, from the factory!

Re: Snowtober For the East

We had approximately 20in here in central MA, with numerous downed trees and powerlines. We normally average 35 to 40 call a night and we had over 300. The problem was that the trees havent lost their leaves as of yet so with the weight of the snow combined with the leaves on the trees. They just coud not support it. A friend of mine was checking on a downed tree and another fell directly on his cruiser. Luckily he only recieved a bruised knee out of it. Lots of road closures and schools with snow days. I personally had a powerline ripped off of my house so I have to wait for the electrician to show up tomorrow. Well could be worse.
