So yesterday we took the boat out, ended up staying out till almost midnight... now, this was my first time being captain of a boat in the dark (been out in some after dark, but never in charge). Once we got back to the launch, my wife say's "Gimme your keys, I'll go get the truck and back the trailer in"... Seeing as this would be the first time she has backed the trailer more than a few feet, I was understandably nervous, but I shakingly (lol) handed her the keys.. As I sat in the boat, I noticed there was VERY little lighting around the ramp, which has concrete walls on either side... I ALSO noticed that the restaurant beside the ramp had about 200 people on the deck partying and watching, which made me nervous for her..
Anyhow, I got to sit and watch as she pulled the truck/trailer around, throws it in reverse and backs the friggin trailer down into that river straighter and quicker than most 'professionals' I have watched!! I was able to pull the boat straight onto the trailer, she hooked up the winch cable, cranked it up, and had me out of the water within 3 minutes of her backing the trailer in!! She was ecstatic at the job she did, and I can't deny that I had a huge smile on my face and felt proud of the job she did, especially with all those people watching let alone the fact that she could barely see the trailer from the low lighting. Now I hope she realizes this has now become her 'duty' when launching/retrieving the boat! haha
