To make a long story short my dad doesn't like me anymore because I'm not on his side in the family break up due to his extramarital affair, and he broke into the storage warehouse where my boat was kept and he filled up the valve cover with sand (the police and my insurance are involved). I didn't see him do it but he confessed both to me and the police while the officer was interviewing my mom and I.
My local marina/dealer hasn't opened it up yet but they told me that the older 3.0L's like mine don't have baffles in the valve cover which would have kept sand from getting very far
. And so, it sounds like the sand the dumb___ poured in went directly into my rockers.
They quoted me $250-6k to fix it. They plan on opening it up to see how far it went. At first I figured that the head could be removed and thrown in a parts washer and aside from an oil change Id be set but I fear its fallen down the oil passages and into the oil pan. The boat's insured for $4k (with a $250 deductible) so if they decide to total it I could surely find a good, used engine to swap in.
I'm mad. Very mad. But I figure it's alright because the police and State Farm will ensure he learns his lesson.
How bad do you guys think the damage is? My dad offered to vacuum it out and give me $200
, like a vacuum would do any good at all in this case. I don't know if he's forced or blown sand in but there's a pile of it up to the hole in the valve cover for the fill cap. It has NOT been started though.
What kind of damage should I expect to be found?
