A couple of months ago the iboats gang helped me select a replacement for my dead big screen TV. Got a good one. Buck$.

About a week after that my DVD player started intermittently rejecting disks as invalid.

Then my microwave starting dying in the middle of a nuke, the non-stick on my Geo. Foreman grill started sticking and the TV in my bedroom lost video as soon as it warmed up.

Got new GF Grill, DVD player, microwave. More buck$. Haven't replaced the bedroom TV yet, but that will be more buck$.

AUGH!!:peep:

I have been told that these things come in threes. I am up to five. When will it end??

Happen to have a power surge or lightning strike recently? I'd think about checking the voltage coming into your house too.

OUCH! I'm with OJ on this one. Except for the non-stick coating on George, electricity is the one common thing. Have you had any work done on the house lately?

We're on our third microwave in 8 years in our house (which was new when we moved in). And they're over-the-range ones so they're a pain to replace. The latest one died literally the day a our new dryer was delivered (can't complain much about that one as it was 10 years old)
My 42" TV started losing audio when I carefully carried it from upstairs to downstairs (it has since healed itself, even weirder) and the 37" TV cannot be powered off with the button on the TV but it can be powered on! and this started after I hit it with a static charge from my finger. Damn technology.

Quite suspicious....

I feel I can ask this because I'm a cheapass (so I apologize) but were all these from ufs or harbor freight? Over time I've had to learn what to not buy from those bargain outfits

It depends. How old are you? - Grandad

Is 77 older than thee?? Great Grandad x 5.

Keith, none came from the net. All came from Walmart and were several years old.

Sadly I don't think it will. We live in a world of ever increasing technology and, increasingly, in a disposable society. Items are cheaper to purchase and have shorter and shorter life spans. Nothing is repaired anymore, its simply tossed in the trash and replaced.

Whoa! Can't complain about a 10 year old dryer crapping out? I have a Kenmore dryer that belonged to my mom and just passed its 37th birthday. I know a new one would probably be more efficient but i'm going to ride with this one as long as it does the job.

I know what you mean, though. I also inherited her Kenmore washer which lasted 30 years before the transmission noises became alarming enough that I replaced it. The Frigidaire replacement lasted 6 years. Progress.

Actually it was a good dryer and it still "worked" but the bearings and belts and drum seal were bad and even just the parts added up to too high a percentage of the price of a new one. We bought practically the same model to replace it.

Surge suppressors don't do anything for brownouts - which are really hard on electronics

Correct...

Battery backups/UPS's (most) don't do anything during normal power conditions,,, dirty power in = dirty power out. UPS's do have surge suppression, some better than others.

A line conditioner will cure most power issues, besides total loss of power.

The power station 1/2 mile away blows transformers regularly during the summer, so I added a line conditioner on our big screen TV and AV equipment, UPS's on the computers.

I read an article on how drought conditions could effect the grounding of the power lines. That would not be good for any appliances.
