I used to regularly take our 27' Bayliner out alone. Including launch and retrieve. It's alot of fun having that much freedom and control. I love it. When we got a slip it was even easier- untie and go, tie up when done. I'm sure I'll solo the Carver from time to time once she's done and in the lake... Just something about the solitude, gotta love it!

This thread is making me want to take the day off and go boating alone! There's far more worries as captain about your crew/passengers (especially the 'helpful' ones, lol) Solo boating rocks! :D

NO SHI* - I am exhausted at the end of the day after taking out a boat full of land lubbers.........

i read up to page 2. looks like the consciences is go do it.

so when ya gonna do it? it really aint that hard to do. fun too. it's you against the world (seas, lake, whatever). you have to rely on your skills since there's no one there to back you up. you'll come away feeling great upon success.. + beef up you seamanship skills. like most things. the more ya do it, the better ya get at it. practice makes perfect.

so when ya gonna do it? oh, i ask that already... ;):D

ps, i didn't read the pants vs. skirt thing. but i'd suggest a swimsuit to go boating in...

I am not certain if your question is serious or your joking. Do you have any boating experience? Your concerns about going out on a lake alone appears to be those of a novis-minus. I am not making lite of your question.........however, if that is your concern than I would have a stand-by person untill you get more confident...good luck.

Hey AZ, Go out and enjoy! I solo boat all the time and love it. Never had anyone mess with the boat while launching & retrieving solo. A way I get some extra solo boating in is even when I'm taking other people out, I go early. It's a great time to launch, without the crowds. I boat for a few hours, and then go pick up the girlfriend and friends at the launch. This might be a good way to try it out. That way your wife will worry less because she will be meeting you in a few hours. Enjoy and be safe!

Im serious with a little humor. I have had my boat about 18 months now and feel I know alot about boating. I will miss my wife helping out with boat launch and retrieval. Get this. I have never driving the boat off and on the trailer. My wife has these duties.

Thanks everyone for all the comments.

do like CC245. Go out for a couple hours then pick up the girlfriend at the launch. We won't tell your wife.

I thought about you Saturday; I was out about 7 miles from shore in the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, winds 15-20 SE and against the tide so the chop plus swells were something to contend with, saw a WOMAN fishing solo in a 17' boat, holding her own just fine.

Man up.

PS I was with a friend but if he hadn't been able to go I would have gone solo, too.

We see plenty of solo female boater all of the time. Gender has nothing to do with ability, although if you have to muscle the boat onto the trailer, you would have a better chance. Once you do it solo, you'll realize just how easy it is.
