Some trolling motor advice

The Facts:

Got a used MOTORGUIDE 24v with a Marinco locking plug 2 wire(black/red) 30amp/125v plug.
(not interested in purchasing the female side of this plug)

Old boat came with a 12v Minnkota that had a spliced plug, 2 wire three prong male and corresponding female mounted in bow facsia.

The existing wire is 8 gauge on the plug, and 8 gauge to the battery well from the female with an inline glass fuse.

I want to use this plug setup for 24v. I have no issue changing to 6 gauge from the female to the batteries, but want to retain the 8 gauge male plug to re-splice.

I also have no issue adding a car part store 40 amp breaker in conjunction with the inline glass or instead of.

I believe the plug has the third prong for locking as it has only 2 wires, red and black and looks like the 20 dollar one you see on Cabelas, but they market ti as a 12v, and the one they market as 24v had a 3rd wire in orange, which my setup doesn't need. Is this plug ok for 24v?

It is ok for 6 volts, 12 volts, 24 volts, 36 volts, 48 volts or any other voltage so long as the current handling capacity of the wire is not exceeded. Two, three and four wire connectors can be used for any of these voltages as well since only two conductors are needed. IF, and I repeat IF, your troller is a combination 12/24 volt unit the boat may be wired with a three or four wire system. This is where the multi-conductor connectors enter the picture. You didn't specify what thrust the Minnkota is but ensure the breaker is suitable for the current draw of the motor.

the current Motorguide is a straight 24v 60 thrust

the removed Minnkota is a straight 12v 36 thrust

all wire is 8 gauge

A 40 amp breaker or fuse is going to be marginal for that motor since it is right at the maximum current draw. I would suggest using a 50A. Wire size is fine. You only need two wires from the battery to the receptacle. Doesn't matter how many terminals the receptacle has as long as it has two.

so the plug in the link above is fine for 24v?
