eastern north dakota - right now we got nothin', could just as well be bumf$#&, north pole. It's a hateful place for about 7 months. No ocean, no lakes, no palm trees, no riff raff. Oh, and our all time record low temperature is right at about -43 degrees F. We weren't quite that today.. something like -15 F. You gotta love it! I don't.

I spent a year there in one day. And I thought Bumf$#& was in Iowa.:D

Looking forward to reading and seeing (pics and links are encouraged) about your locations!

There used to be two beautiful and very tall buildings, that you would see at the center of this picture... They faced Ms. Liberty, in NY Harbor...I take the family there at least once a year.

Damn close, but the mackenzie river delta was only about 1-2 feet deep were we ended up and no current. We started 120km south of Inuvic NWT, paddled through that and were headed for Akluvic NWT on the Bearing sea.
But every year the delta changes, so we had to turn around and header back to Inuvic. But thats life!:)

We live at the doorstep of the largest forested area in the
state of Illinois, the 280,000 acre Shawnee National Forest.
It is at the very bottom of Illinois. The #1 outdoor tourist
attraction in all of Illinois. We are in the "coal belt", mining
(used) to be the main industry. We are also the home of
Crownline and Celebrity Boats. (Crownline back in business
just recently)

Due to the glaciers stopping just to the north, this part of
Illinois is in stark contrast to the level or gently rolling farm
land typical of the rest of Illinois.

We have numerous magnificent rock and bluff formations,
some as high as 300', river views, waterfalls, tupelo and
cypress swamps and nine nearby lakes ranging in size from
145 to 19,000 acres. Along with numerous smaller lakes and
coal mining "strip pits".

More then 500 wildlife species live here.
IE: 48 mammals, 237 birds, 52 reptiles, 57 amphibians,109
species of fish. We are also right in the middle of the
Mississippi Flyway for migratory geese and other birds.

It is a boating, fishing, camping, hunting, paradise.
And just an hour away is one of the largest man made
lake/recreation areas in the eastern US. Kentucky Lake,
Lake Barclay and Land Between The Lakes Rec. Area.

Come see.:)

Hey, I used to live in bumf@#$, ND. Don't forget that you have that Mighty Red River that flows north and a whole lot of determined people that could write the rule book on how to fight floods!
I tell people here in Iowa that we moved here for the mild weather. They don't realize how cold it gets up in old ND when that NW wind starts. Don't even plug our cars in IA. People used to ask me why I had an electrical cord hanging from the front of my car. They thought it was an electric car. Our family is one of the few that travels to ND for spring break. Still have a lot of family and friends all over the state. Hang in there til summer man!
And furthermore, I think there are at least 3 trees in ND because I planted them in the yard at our old house!

don't know if it's cool, but likely unique.
from my memory...

Lincoln was originally called Lancaster (Lancaster is now the county where Lincoln resides) when it was founded. it was founded for it rich salt deposits. i think that morton salt originally got salt from here.
in Lincoln there is a small lake called capitol beach. a privte lake and i think man made. it is brackish water and i've seen the salt damage on others boats caused by capitol beaches salty water while visiting my local mercruiser dealer....

who'd a thought, salt water in the middle of the great plaines...

Historic Savannah Ga, I grew up just about 20 min North of Savannah, now live about 30 Min South of Savannah, a lot of history in this old town.

Some links to info about Savannah and the old Forts that are here, Fort Jackson, Fort Pulaski, Fort McAllister in Richmond hill just to the South of Savannah.

Virtual tours of the forts

Then to the South is Midway Ga, at one time many years ago the capitol of Ga. More old history here.

i love living in wis for about 9 months out of the year. I am not a fan of winter anymore like i was when i was younger.
some of the great things here are lots and lots of lakes. any size you want. small non motor lakes up to the big pond.
generally friendly people ( although a little nosy at times)
many things i never realized growing up. family wasn't exactly wealthy so we didn't do much recreating.
tons of state parks and rec areas that allow you to do almost any outdoor activity you could want. atv's , climbing, skiing, boating, fishing, hiking, camping etc.
i've found large areas of eagle nesting grounds while hiking that were incredible to see.
interesting topography as well. cities and "exciting life" in the southern part and "outdoorsy" areas in the north.
just wish i had 3 months of vacation at work so i didn't have to deal with sub zero temps in the winter. LOL

My area is right on the Pa., Ohio boarder. Split between Erie and Pittsburg.
Pymatuning State Park is the closest lake with a 20hp. limit.
Known for the spillway where the ducks walk on the carps back.
Many visitors feed the carp bread and the ducks fight for thier share.
Transfer,Pa., close to my home, is known for the transfer of troops during WWII. Also held pow camp of Germans.
Indians had a settlement along the Shenango River and many artifacts have been found. I,ve found alot of arrow heads and pottery chuncks.
Shenango L;ake is unlimited hp. and this will be my destination as soon as my project is done. Loaded with crappie and walleyes.

Sorry did I mention that we have THE GREEN BAY PACKERS And Lambeau Field, the BEST football stadium in the world (IMHO) and Miller Park, one of the best baseball venues out there.

My step-mother works for PA DCNR and she and my father were recently out at Pymatuning. They couldn't say enough nice things about it. I hope to check that place out one day. I'm out in western PA often as my sister lives in Cranberry and I have lots of college friends in Erie.

I can properly pronounce that word, and spell Pittsburgh, since I grew up in the "Pottery Capital of the World", East Liverpool, Ohio!
