As we all know, utility costs are soaring. As a part of the CRE [Corporate Real Estate] 2006 budget, several cost savings initiatives were approved by Senior Management to at least partially offset the 46% increase in utility rates that are expected in the upcoming year. One of these initiatives is to remove one bulb from each light fixture in HDQ1 and HDQ2. Facilities maintenance will begin this project in the very near future and will implement throughout all offices, hallways and conference rooms. This effort will still result in providing more light than prior to the modifications made in the earlier re-lamping project. Your cooperation in this endeavor is appreciated.

Yeah it'll work great till they get to some series wired ballast. Then the crap will hit the fan. The other lamps will not light.

I take it they know that the ballast will operate properly delamped? Series wired, parallel wired, rated to run less lamps than the label rating??

Did they figure out how many people it will take to unscrew each light bulb? :D

It's a pretty sophisticated organization - 2 six-floor buildings - if we go dark, it'll be hilarious, somebody'll be real embarrassed, but my guess is, he'll manage to point fingers elsewhere & get a promotion of some kind out of it.

We have 3-lamp fixtures, florescent. A year or so ago they went to a brighter lamp. When I look straight up I can just make out the Sylvania logo. Now they're taking away 1/3 of the light, but it'll be brighter....

Interestingly, a couple years ago, they started letting indicator lights on the elevator control panels stay dark for weeks before replacing 'em. Like the elevator arrives but you don't know if it's going up or down 'cause the lights don't light. You push a floor button but it doesn't light, so the guy who asked for "5" might think you didn't push it, so you make a show of punching it several times. Then somebody says "guess this one doesn't stop on 5". I usually theorize that they're not replacing them at all, just switching 'em around.

Just shake your head "yes" and say "of course---any fool would know that!"

I can't figure out how IDIOTS end up running things so often.

this just in...discussion with some of my colleagues, we realized that along the windows, we've got three-lamp fixtures, but toward the center of the building, it's all 2-lamp fixtures...is a pattern emerging here...

What happens to the electricity when it gets to the bulb and it is not there? Does it fall out on the floor or what????

Am I the only one thinking it's time to start job hunting?

I wouldn't feel real secure at a company that was that worried about the light bill.

thanks, alden, but if I told you the name of the company, you'd realize that this financial predicament we're in really is old news. Let's just say I know why you fly.

Re: Sometimes Less is More: This actual note was on my desk this morning.

the county got the bright idea this summer when they thought we would not be able to get gas due to shortages that K-9 deputys should leave there dogs at home, because they have to leave there cars running during there entire shift so the dog does not die from heat. i'm happy that idea got shot down when they realized just how much gas and time it would cost for deputys to run home to get the dog on a call and run the dog back after a call. sometimes money saving ideas just don't seem to have any logic to them and sometimes the people incharge just don't understand how things work.
