Spare prop question... Rubbing?

When I purchased my boat, I was given a "Spare" SS prop which he said he'd used.

When I pulled my current prop off for servicing, I decided I'd try the SS prop.
The base of the prop rubs slightly on the lower end unit.

Was this guy full of crap and this is the wrong prop, or do I simply need some sort of spacer?
Thanks!

I'm running a E115TLCRD on a 17' Aquasport
I think i have a 3 x 15x7 on it right now, and I'm getting ~36MPH top end...
Not too many people with this boat go above 40MPH, so I'm thinking it's a pretty good pitch/size for the boat, but I'm always open for suggestions to try something different!!

Thanks!

If the prop is rubbing the forward thrust washer may be missing or be the wrong one. Sometimes they stick in the old prop when you take it off.

Next time I take the other one off I'll check to see if it's stuck up in the hub...
Thanks for the advice. I did put on a slotted (like a gear on one side) looking washer before I put the prop on, but maybe this is different?

If it does fit, should I stick with the SS prop instead of the aluminum one I have on there now?
With the same pitch, will it make much difference?
