Cooling....Baffled....Anyone?

Cooling....Baffled....Anyone?

Just wasn't ready to let this post die yet...

I did some more investigation....and pulled both exhaust manifolds, inspect and flushed them, water flow is good. No rust in the exhaust chamber, minimal surface rust in cooling channels.

The rubber exhaust flappers are a bit loose but nor melted and could probably use a replacement.

Flushed water thru both sides of the heads to see if there were obstructions, and there were not, free and clear.

I am puzzled, how can the engine be overheating on 1 side still

Is there any other thing I am missing here? other than the possibility there is a block inside the block? water does trickle out of the drain hole in the bottom of the block.

I understand I have posted a lot to try and resolve this issue, to no avail....any last ditch advise is truly welcome!

You DO have a thermostat with a small bypass hole in the rim, don't you???

I also don't believe a 2 degree timing difference has any affect. That's an insignificant difference.

I don't know about the t-stat, I bought the 140degree one from a Mercruiser dealer. It's supposed to be the correct one.

I wasn't sure about the timing being a problem....I think if it were the entire engine would be heating up , not just the port side bank

Specific Cooling Question...Conclusion!

Specific Cooling Question...Conclusion!

Hey Guys,

Finally figured out the source of all my ire! It turns out that my port side exhaust manifold was indeed obstructed. And as a note to all out there who don't want to check this properly, please do, it will save you time and pain.

***There is absolutely no way to determine if your exhaust manifold is clear unless you remove it from the engine, trust me!****

So I removed it and put the sprayer up to the inlet on the bottom of the manifold and got a trickle out of top. I wiggled a coat hanger in there (both ends) and put the sprayer back on the inlet and a trickle, still, then......booom....all of the sudden Niagra falls! I lifted the rider up to see a bunch of rusty flakes sitting there.

I know some will cringe, and this is only for this year....but I kept flushing it and reinstalled it (I will buy 2 replacements next year as time runs short this year).

Engine purrrs, temp doesn't go above 160, all seems happy.

On a side note, I also made mention of a chattering noise, both in this post and another, as it turns out I was very low on power steering fluid, the pump was the culprite.....phew.

Thank you all for the help and guidance, and I'd like to say this again....
