I don't know that I'd go buying a new head, but you should check that one out. Maybe re-seat/replace the valves, possibly get it decked, if it's warped. That head gasket was toast for sure.

If your manifold's looking "like ****", just replace it now. Or you might be replacing the whole engine next time around, if you hydrolock it. Could be worse though, just be glad you don't have to replace TWO manifolds/elbows.

Your answers
You engine is 35 years old and still running. Out of respect for that......

I like the way this was stated.
I've been told i have an "Iron Duke" but research on this is a liitle vague..be that as it may, I'm becoming more firmly attached to this engine. It'll be saved. I have a more complete grasp on what's happening now that I've actually seen the water shooting out of the spark plug holes.
I really do love this boat and engine..

thanks guys...you knew I'd come to this conclusion, didn't ya? :))))

I ask in all sincerity and with all respect due, what exactly is your conclusion? Are you saying you will park it until you can get new manifold and riser? and refurbish the head and new gasket? and fix the casting pieces that broke?

I can tell that you feel you have reached the end of something but it is hard for me to tell what you mean. Speak clearly man....;)

I'm confused as to what the conclusion is as well:confused:
Please elaborate, or should we just let it alone?....
