Re: Spring Is Coming
You know sometimes, I think that people have become so dependent on what they read on 'the internet' that they have lost the ability to think for themselves and use common sense. Back when I started working on my own cars (1972 or so) I learned a lot from a friend whose Dad was the shop manager of the local Ford dealership, they always had interesting cars around their house. I was so impressed with his knowledge, that I was determined to learn, so every car I have owed since then, I have the factory shop manual. Same thing with the boat, it was 14 years old when I bought it, but I still got a factory manual. All I did, was follow the steps in the manual, the first time I winterized it. And guess what, no problems, even did the filling of the drive the "OMC WAY" much to my Merc owning neighbor's disapproval, and no problems, because that was the RIGHT WAY.
SO to all you backyard boat mechanics, get a real MANUAL, follow it, make sure what you are doing makes sense (a water drain, when taken out of the block....should be followed by.....WATER!!!)
sorry about the rant, but I feel all the beginners getting 'net advice, while it can be good, should be reading shop manuals, instead.
