Naw,....
A year or 2 ago, I forget his name, Took My advice,+ stored his motor using the Dry, No Antifreeze method.......

Trouble was,.... He Didn't Drain Everything...... He just Thought he did....
That spring,+ probably to this day, he rode Me Hard that it was My fault his block Split,+ he changed his signature to something like Mine,...
Except it said Antifreeze, where mine says Grease......

Which of course is a Blatant Lie,....
'cause alittle antifreeze is Worse than no antifreeze at all......

Re: Spring Is Coming

It's always the ones that either pull the thermostat housing and try to put antifreeze in on top of the water, without first draining the system, or the ones with a raw water cooled engine that try to just run it in thru the muffs.
Just watch, right around mid April the posts start coming in. Should have went ahead and saved all the 'Winterizing" threads where people that didn't know what they were doing decided the above two methods will work fine for them ..................... because it was easier than doing it properly.

Re: Spring Is Coming

This was my second winterization... I did the anti-freeze thing, and then drained it after that. The strange thing was, a day or two later, I re-opened the drain plugs and a little liquid came out??? I'll keep my fingers crossed until I check it out in the spring...

Ok, I've gotta ask.. what did he miss?

I winterized my motor last year myself with help from the board, and I'm pretty sure I did it right, but there's always that nagging feeling......

What he missed, was the details. Anybody can pull a plug and put it back. Was the hole probed with a stiff wire or screw driver or something that would make sure it wasn't plugged with rust, crud, crap or corrosion? Probably not, plus some drain fittings don't make it possible.
A plain old pipe plug, and KNOWLEDGED of what you are trying to accomplish is all it takes.
If you don't have a clue what the draining process is doing to what part and what is involved with makeing sure it is drained, then you shouldn't be doing it.
I have said MANY times, take it to a dealer the first time, pay for the job and have them let you watch and explain it. Then you know how and WHY it was done that way.
90% of the people with cracked blocks have only themselves to blame because they did NOT know what or why they were doing anything.
Just that some book or some forum post that seemed easiest to do didn't work and now they have a dead engine.
Hate to be the one to tell you guys, but I have worked on a lot of different boats for many years. It's not easy. If it was, everyone would do it.
It's mostly hard, painful work. If you don't do it properly, get out your check book.

Well, it's too late for me to take it in.

I guess we'll see if I did it right in the spring... if you read painful posts from me here, you'll know what happened :)

I remember that, but also don't remember who it was. I also remember that he would take shots at you at any opportunity in other threads. At least he's gone...

Re: Spring Is Coming

I'm just hoping for a trouble-free season as I'm sure we all are!

After the way my season ended last year...........I have baely looked at the boat since I put it away in October..........and that's odd for me..........I'm usually doing something to the boat during the winter.........this year I didn't do anything............so I decided to gut the kitchen and remodel...........what a mistake.......:)

Anyway.........I'm just going to de-winterize, check the bellows, paint the bottom, wax it and break-in the new longblock. (That will be another thread).

Good luck to all this year!

Re: Spring Is Coming

You guys are too funny! Why in the world anyone would CHOOSE to live where you have to winterize anything is beyond me. :) :D If you're ever in Southwest Florida, look me up! I'll be out boating. (When I'm not working of course ;) The bills have to be paid even here in paradise).
