At low RPMs the engine runs fine as the RPMs increase the enging jumps and kicks. (200 Optimax , 2010 yr) The engine was running smooth all day we stopped to get lines out and prepare ed to dock when I began to get back on plane to finish the last 1/2 mile or so when this started. Had to baby it in at near idle speeds. The question is did I spin the hub on the Prop ?

Take it off, mark it with a line from the spline to the outside of the inner hub. Put it back on, punch it out, take it back off and see if the lines are still in alignment. If not, yes to your question.

Re: Spun Hub ?

Your description sounds like it may need a shift adjustment probably the cables.
Could be an adjustment of shift assembly at the motor.
Also could be a worn clutch dog.

Re: Spun Hub ?

2 year old outboard- is it the original prop? Merc prop? Probably had a Torq-Flo hub if so and these are easy to check. Pull the prop off and look at the insert. Is it damaged/broken? If not, it's not the hub and you have another issue. If it is the hub, $50 and you're back in business.

Have you hit anything? Slammed the gears or anything to induce an extreme shock on the prop? They don't normally go out just because...

Thanks for the responses I do have a Merc Prop and the hub looks in good shape. Spoke to the mechanic yesterday he said it sounds like a fuel issue ? find out for certain on monday have an appointment at the dealer.
