Did I spin the prop?

Do I have bad gas?

Or is this electrical?

What should I be looking for??

Keep in mind I havent been able to get it back in the water and under load due to weather
.

I was out on the water all day at different cruising speeds and on different waters, back bay and out front in the ocean on easy roller waves.. I noticed when I was trimming out, up down the engine seemed to give or drop rpms.. when all of a sudden engine dropped rpms so I came to no wake speed..

I have an 88 21 4-winns with a rebuilt 4.3l V6 220 hp engine I/O Cobra with less than 10 hours on it

I tried to get back up on top and couldnt get above 2500 with the nose in the air. The engine was bucking and had a couple of back fires pop out at me.

I got it back to the house and topped it off with gas
I used about 17 gallons on a 50 gal tank this day..

So my thought was that since I was running out front I kicked crap up from the tank and into the fuel line..

So dumped 2 bottles of dry gas and 2 bottles of carb cleaner in the tank and then topped it off. I cleaned the battery connections and checked the distributor connections and found some corrosion on the wire, especially on the coil so I hit them with a file cleaning them..

I fired it up in the driveway and everything worked ok.. ran in neutral and brought the out-drive up and down about 20 times and the engine bucked and stalled out 4 times out of the 20
Then I put it in gear forward/reverse up some on the rpms without it bucking
Remember Im not on load with it in the driveway

Then I replaced the water/fuel separator filter and noticed the old one had a bunch of particles floating in the gas
.

With the new filter on I raised and lowered the out- drive and the engine didnt buck or quit on me
. I did this twice over two days

I pulled the new filter off and dumped it into a bucket and didnt see anything I then dumped the bucket/gas into a glass and let it sit for an hour and didnt see anything swimming or floating like water etc

Thats the story
What should I be looking for next or doing if I run into the same problem when I get it back in the water under load???

Fuel filter?? Carb or Injector clogged?? Alternator or Generator??
