SS Prop Installed old Thrust Bushing not Right

Hi All:
I have an OMC Cobra 3.0L with an aluminum propeller. I purchased a never used pre-owned Stainless Steel propeller. According to the manual this propeller should fit my boat. When I place it on the shaft with the Thrust Washer/Bushing it fits too close to the drive unit and I can feel friction when it is turned. If I turn the thrust bushing around it spins without the rubbing but I know this is not the way the thrust bushing is supposed to be placed due to the bevel fitting over the shaft bevel. Would it be OK to place a washer over the existing thrust bushing to give the prop a little more clearance from the drive unit? Or do I need to get another thrust bushing that is thicker? If it makes any difference the new prop is SS #389924
14 1/2X19.
Thanks for any help.

It should use the same stock OMC thrust washer...unless the aluminum you have now does not use the stock item....some manufacturers supply their own thrust washer with a given prop- what you have may not be stock.

I had the same problem with an OMC viper prop, it seems the omc props had a deeper setback for the mounting hub insdie the prop then Merc has with there hub system. You need to get an OMC thrust washer, cost me 40 bucks to get one, they are about 1/16" thicker.

ps Merc, Mich Wheel and Turning Point all use the same hub now, at least there new stuff

Several manufacturers use the square hub, Turbo is included...they even have 3 different styles of hub systems. Solas has a GREAT hub you can use with these props and it's called the "RUBEX" hub.
I've tested quite a few of the square-hub props with this Rubex insert now.....very smooth design- better by far than the flo-torq and XHS Delrin material.

Thanks guys for the help. I don't know if my thrust washer is an OE OMC but I will try and check. I guess adding a washer to the existing one will not work then?
