Do any of you have one ? We live in a remote area that looses its hydro a lot. I'm sick and tired of being with out electrical power, so we bought this generator.

I find that they will suck all the propane from your tank if you let them run non stop. What I have been doing is turning it off when we can get by without hydro. They also tend to freeze the line if left going for a long time.

I thought about getting one of those in the natural gas version for all the outages we have around here lately. My Daughter has one out in Colorado, where they are located in the middle of almost nowhere. They do eat the propane though...

I'm confused too? Never heard of needing to run a septic with power?

A friend of mine sells the small trailer mounted diesel models, pretty popular! What ya using it for? Jet pumps, well pump?

I wish my power would go out more often. I have three generators and enough batteries to last for months...but the power hasn't gone out in at least 5 years. d:)

The septic bed is up hill from the home so the waste goes to a tank that requires electrical power to move it to the septic bed, also the well pump requires power.

Re: Stand by generators

I'd like to get a genset sometime wired into the house. Right now, we have a small portable, enough to run 1 space heater, but not the well.

....My family is pretty close, Parents, Myself, 2 brothers and 1 of their mother-in-laws on about 30 acres. 2 Wells between all of us.

My 2 brothers are working on getting a genset and transfer switch setup for their house, they all have propane/fireplaces, so they only need enough power to run the well and blowers.

I'm all electric and and have no way keep the house from freezing. If we got a bad ice storm where we were out for a week like the folks in st. louis, I would have to abandon and winterize the house.... If I had a genset, I could keep a few rooms heated and not worry about it.

......Currently working on a battery backup for the electronics in the house, 2000w inverter hooked to 4 100ah batteries, auto transferswitch with a surge supression.... I put 1 circuit in each room wired to the backup set to plug computers, tvs etc into.

It's enough backup power to give time to shut down the electronics, and even run a space heater sparingly to get through a night in a room until morning to fire up the generator.

.....But our power hardly EVER goes out. We get a lot of blips and surges, that's why I want the electronics protection.
