Re: Stand by generators
I'd like to get a genset sometime wired into the house. Right now, we have a small portable, enough to run 1 space heater, but not the well.
....My family is pretty close, Parents, Myself, 2 brothers and 1 of their mother-in-laws on about 30 acres. 2 Wells between all of us.
My 2 brothers are working on getting a genset and transfer switch setup for their house, they all have propane/fireplaces, so they only need enough power to run the well and blowers.
I'm all electric and and have no way keep the house from freezing. If we got a bad ice storm where we were out for a week like the folks in st. louis, I would have to abandon and winterize the house.... If I had a genset, I could keep a few rooms heated and not worry about it.
......Currently working on a battery backup for the electronics in the house, 2000w inverter hooked to 4 100ah batteries, auto transferswitch with a surge supression.... I put 1 circuit in each room wired to the backup set to plug computers, tvs etc into.
It's enough backup power to give time to shut down the electronics, and even run a space heater sparingly to get through a night in a room until morning to fire up the generator.
.....But our power hardly EVER goes out. We get a lot of blips and surges, that's why I want the electronics protection.
