As many of you know I am in search for a rub rail insert for my '79 SC. Taco Marine (one of the big rub rail makers) does not produce a replacement for the older boats. Wefco Rubber Company has a couple that are close, but doesn't send samples, and their minimum order is 25 feet. I also came across a few different threads here and there that a few people thought the inserts were still availiable through Starcraft. I called a local dealer who was no help and tried contacting Starcraft via e-mail and my e-mails keep coming back to me "return to sender, undeliverable".

So, if anyone has any other ideas or leads I have not tried yet please let me know.

This is my rub rail insert:

Dave if you call and talk to taco directly they will find what you need and hook you up with a middle man to sell it to you in your area. That's what I did on the LL. Plus I think Bret has the part number.

I sure love my Starcraft but I have been way disappointed when I have tried to contact them as well. I call the 800 number and I get connected directly to my local marine dealer a few miles from my place. I have emailed them and also get the "undeliverable" as well. That's no good.

I am so surprised that other company isn't willing to lop off an inch of material and send it to ya to check it. Sheesh. Whats the big deal?

I have seen that old style rubrail up on eBay/clist from guys who are scrapping out rigs, but, that is pretty rare.

Re: Starcraft Aluminum Boat Rub Rail Insert

Well I sent an e-mail to the tech support at Taco Marine and got a reply back saying "No we do not make a direct replacement for your boat, but have many too choose from that would be both esthetically and functional for your boat". They then provided me a couple links back to their website. Basically, pick one and hope it fits and works how you like. I thought it odd that the reply e-mail came back from a marketing company.

So I looked at all the different shapes and even looked at replacing the aluminum channel as well. That would get a little expensive and I didn't see anything that would fit as well as the stock channel (or even close). The original channel is a 1" "c-shape" that slides in the side of the boat. So i plan on cleaning up my aluminum channel and not worrying about the insert right now. Maybe I can get a more definite answer to what insert will fit down the road. I would hate to pick something that looks like it would work and then have it too loose in the channel or worse yet not fit in the channel at all. I may have to do a minumum order and take a chance.

Yah, I can sure respect that! Heck, the new boats of today are our scrapyard finds of tomorrow friend! (Well 30 years from now anyway)

But, having a correct phone number and a working email seems like pretty basic stuff.

Hey DJ, I think that one you found from wefco might be a winner. I wonder if you might be able to call them, get somebody different, and persuade to send ya just a little chunk. Seems like a reasonable request to me, eh!

They told me when you place an order it will take 1-2 weeks to ship, so I'm thinking that when you place an order then they go and make it, but yes, I could try again....

I purchased the 0101G from Wefco and it fit my 14' 1963 Starcraft Ranger perfectly. Exact match fit. Exact profile and everything and was available in black or white. I think it was $2 per foot for black.
