I have just acquired a Starcraft Falcon, serial number is 922974, looking at the brochures and comparing colors (mine has an orange deck) it would appear to be a 1971. It has the plastic emblems and single transom knee. Anyone have a similar serial number series to confirm that it is a 71? It could be anywhere from 68 to 71, definitely not 72 as it has no HIN. I will post pics.

Re: Starcraft Falcon

Ok heres the pics, the transom has been modified to 20 inch but I have the old trim piece so it will be going back to a short shaft setup. Likely a late 60,s merc 44 cubic inch. Previous owner did a lot of the hard work for me and has removed the floor and cleaned up, the blue is vinyl that he stuck on. You can see the seats I will be adding and the flotation foam will be under the seat rather than under the floor. You can see the id plate the numbers are in the 900 series, nothing in the brochures goes above 400 series. I am going to re title the boat so I would like to get the year right.

Ignore the date in the pictures, the camera batteries were dead and I forgot to change it.

Thanks for the views so far, I noticed that most of the boats in the brochures are solid color, mine has a stylized orange strip on the side whee the starcraft logo goes. Does that help narrow it down any? It is definitely original starcraft paint.

I think you have a 1971 Falcon. If so, it's supposed to be ALL orange:

Since the hull's bare from the orange stripe down, orange in the splashwell & UNDER the blue vinyl along the gunwale:

it certainly appears that it could have been all orange originally.

It's pretty clear that the PO (previous owner) did some work on it, bare aluminum & etc, so maybe they removed some of the orange below the stripe.

I agree 100% it is going to be registered as a 1971. Not going to be orange or pea green though. I would have to get a Gremlin X to tow it. Since I have a black and tan Expedition it will either be black...or tan...or both:facepalm:

I like the look of the Mariner-V model too. Looks like and early center console set up. Both look very sporty.

I agree, I like the mariner v set up as well. I might play with layout and see if I can do a similar center console in the Falcon, only 14 foot though so I guess it would have to be a Sub Mariner:D

Re: Starcraft Falcon

You better copyright that name before someone steals it ;) I love the cc conversion idea. There are several small, aftermarket helms you can buy, or you can go DIY. Best of all a cc layout keeps everything nice and tidy in the boat by running all the controls under the deck. Of course you could also go with a tiller/cc console, which is sorta what I run. It's a very popular layout down here in FL i flats and bay boats. Either way, she'll make a sweet winter project. I think I'm gonna attempt to paint my boat and motor this winter too. They both work great, but look like $*@%.

Similar Vintage Starcraft CC conversions:

CC on steroids they use down here to catch tarpon:

Re: Starcraft Falcon

Well I picked up a 1971 Merc 500 4 cyl 44 cubic inch motor for the starcraft today, complete with controls and key. Should make the Falcon fly.

Re: Starcraft Falcon

I see lots of the blue strip models on clist. as well as the newer red stripe versions. The late model (+90s) 25hp, 2-strokes are very popular down here for use on skiffs and flats boats. Is there any particular reason you chose a Merc over and OMC? I've never actually owned a Merc.

I have run Jonsons and Evinrudes and Mercs. Pound for pound the Merc will spin the same pitch prop 1000 rpm more. Especially the old ones vs the old Johnsons. In the newer engines things are more matched.

And being a four pot... smooooooooth as well for it's size! Just watch/check out the lower end seals --- they were prone to leaking and causing lu issues. Mine has the seals gone... fixable and not to many Franklins... but better to catch it than to get stuck paddling somewhere!

Exactly, the lower end on this one has stripped the threads on the retaining ring so the guts are out, literally. The gears are in pristine condition, just needs a new ring and of course i will do new seals as well. It looks like someone just over torqued it and stripped the threads then it popped out first time it when in reverse and spilled its guts.
