I hate to break it to you's in the SC mob, but the red FireFlite isn't a donor boat

Ummmm... Where did the blue fireflite come from? U got some splainin' to do!!! Props on the subtle reveal there!

U know I love those boats....if she is at all salvageable after u pillage for parts, I would seriously consider driving to the mountaineer state to make a deal with ya....

Gentlemen, I think we have a hoarder on our hands... By my count, that's 4 boats and 3 or 4 o/bs....

Nice work, buddy!

Re: Starcraft I own, but haven't picked up.........

Ummmm, 5 & 6 O/B:facepalm: if you count the free one I pickup in the am. BUT it goes to work w/ the G3. The G3 has already been transferred to the shop. So, that makes 4 & 6. I hate to admit that the new freebie, almost more so then the G3, has seen it's last splash. But I hope the testing & samples at work go well on the fiberglass hulls. It should prove interesting.

So that drops me back to 3 & 6 O/B's. The Blue FireFlite was up in Youngstown late last week. It had to come back w/ me. And was worth what I paid, I needed some trailer parts too. But it looks like Blue's trailer will end up under the Jet. It's trailer is a wreck. I just didn't want the SC mob hit squad marshaling at the WV border, if I posted it before the SC. So a 2-fer:D

The balance of this in my Glasser thread. I am still on extremely thin ice as a pleb/newbie Starmada-ian.

The 10HP Johnson from the Blue1 will go to my boss after I get it to fire. If I can salvage the short shaft 50HP Merc 500E from the G3, it may end up on the Jet. The Evinrude 75Hp StarFlite will DEFINITELY go on the Red1. The Johnson electric shift 40hp from the Jet, may or may not stay on the Jet, but the electric shift troubles me. I just can't seem to decide about the 1957 35hp Johnson Javelin. I may have to hang on to that. The Long shaft 65hp Merc 650 may end up finding a new home.

Thanks, I think I have a bit of work ahead. I never intend to hack it up, so it's yours if you want her, for the princely sum of 2 cheeseburgers & a diet coke/sweet tea:). It may need a trailer & a windshield though....

Cleanup & more pix this weekend. Oh, and need to finish the other project's cap seperation......

Nice Starcraft JB. Glad to see you finally made it home with it. Soon you will wonder why you even ever had a glass boat:D

Re: Starcraft I own, but haven't picked up.........

Thank you, RH, but nah, I still have the love for the FireFlite, just not the grinding;) or the dust:redface:

Need to get her cleaned out and get a good look at the bits & pieces. Then try & get her down to bare bones & see what we have to work with.

I have a sinking feeling that there will be no stringers, but I need to check around, maybe the ribs were all..... I think I remember Jas having stringers in his Jet, pre-noodle filling...

Speaking of noodles, did they have these mega noodles last year? They were stocking them Wed night when I stopped @ Wally world for some trailer towing bits...

Speaking of stringers...didn't see any on the rig. Don't worry they aren't supposed to be there.:D

Well that answers that. Thanks HA: No stringers because it didn't have them, as opposed to the PO removing them, good deal! I must have been thinking of the Islander & noodle/bottle cacophony....

Nah man, you should have one single stringer running right down the middle, like this...

Re: Top secret metal boat files are all hidden!

Ya so I feel kinda cheated,

First page saw pics, thought "how did I miss this one", and read on.

Ah carp! I just spent 20+ minutes reading through your thread hoping to see some progress and you havn't even took posession yet! Hopefully soon my friend, I'll be waiting patiently :D

Ya, BN I know the feeling

So now I'm here and glad to see she made it home. :D

Maybe I missed it since I skimmed through the last few pages of coffee klatch. Have you measured or found anymore ID on it?

I will add that the SC badges on my 68 are the same style as those if it helps any.

Re: Top secret metal boat files are all hidden!

Looks to be pre-66, it's 14' 9", and there are no ID tags. Spent the afternoon emptying it of acorns, sycamore balls & a 33gal bag of leaves. More this weekend.

I took some pix of a few of the rashes & scars. But after going over the hull pretty well today, I'm pleased that it's in better shape then I thought. 1 good dock/pole shot to the starboard rubrail that very slightly wrinkled the gunwale top, but that's about it on the cap. Very happy about that too. There is some floor down, not well, & not in good shape, and then there is the bed liner mess. The batteries need to be pulled before I crawl up into the bow and clean that area out. Then get that platform & the faux floor out. Then get to making a plan for getting it all totally cleaned out & squared away.

I took a pix of the seat brackets that looks to me to be factory. It still has all 4, helm & rear on both the port & the starboard sides. Do those help to date it at all?

Worst gouge:

W/ all the red paint on the lights & cleats, they all seem to be in really good shape. And will get reused.

All & all fairly pleased. Now to get the Johnson sorted.......

I kind of see it in there. Right to the port of the saw base? If it runs from about the edge of the splashwell ( held short for a bilge opening, most of the way to the bow, say 3-3.5ft shy, I'm probably missing that stringer. We'll have to see once I get the messed up faux floor up.

Thanks, I actually looked at that photo & totally missed the stringer.

Re: Starcraft I own, but haven't picked up.........

I took some more measurements today, & remembered to write them down:
Length = 14’ 9”
Max Beam (across at the helm seating position) = 5’ 6”
Transom width (outside to outside @ the end caps) = 5’

Both end caps are in great shape because of the red paint:
DSCN1929.jpg

There are 4 holes on each side at the splashwell:
DSCN1928.jpg

Since there were originially 2 bench seats, I guess these were for the back rest support brackets?

If this originally had 2 bench seats, did it have a central stringer & a deck? There would have been very little of it available for use. Maybe 24” between the benches & another 24” forward of the helm bench, up to the forward platform under the bow cap. The centerline of the boat is just to the right of the blue wire where it crosses the rib:
DSCN1925.jpg

The plastic SC logos are in decent shape for 50+yrs old. The port is missing just the tip of the arrow, the starboard is ok. They both have a little curl in both directions:

More pix later…….

Well here are some shots under the splashwell. It looks like I may have PT lumber, but it appears to be the ‘al-friendly’ older version. This has been in for quite a while…..
DSCN1921.jpg

More under the splashwell, lots of rivet holes, no rivets:
DSCN1917.jpg

Must have been a ‘glassers boat before too:D

It's extremely unfortunate that whoever applied the bed liner took real pride in their work. It seems to be well stuck & have really good coverage.

Carp, that will officially be: grinding glass kinds of no fun whats so ever!

There is an interesting piece of aluminum under the OB clamps, but it appears to be upside down:
DSCN1920.jpg

The underside of the bow cap:
DSCN1916.jpg

Same styro spacers others have found…….

Well, gotta go, Red1 had some progress today too……

JB - It looks like you have a 2x10 or 2x12 for the transom wood instead of plywood. I don't see any plys on the bottom edge. But my eyes ain't so good anymore. And those missing "reevits" are for screws to secure the splashwell to the transom wood. About 632 of them. Judging by the water stains to the left of the knee brace you need more than NONE. Also some 5200 to seal the SW to the wood.

And why do so many PO's use bed liner to fix leaks? I can see it to "finish" bare AL, but too many times it's for leaks. Here are some ideas to remove spray in bed liner. Good luck.

Lastly - the AL plate under the motor clamps , whether it's upside-down or right-side up is to give a firmer place for the clamps. It spreads the load on tightened clamps and stops the clamps from compressing the wood.

All in all, she looks purty good for a mess of riveted tin. The wait to pick her was worth it I think.:D

Re: Starcraft I own, but haven't picked up.........

Yeah, there's a real mess of silly-cone along the top edge of the splashwell. Between the AL & the PT wood (I agree 2X not ply, but I forgot to check again after taking the pix to be sure) it shouldn't be too tough to get the silicone off.

And yeah, why would you want to use 2" rivets thru the transom AL skin anyway. Go back w/ screws for sure, shorties, that way they're hard to drive:facepalm:. Glass~tin I get confused sometimes. Guess the PO figured too much work to put them in.....

I'll read thru the bed liner removal link in a bit. What I really want to know is how do I get it out of the lumber holes? I even looked it up on google, first, because it didn't look right, but it must be true, I read it on the internet. Should have read the thread that was listed 1st on google results, on some yachting website. That guy used it too & didn't even get any replies to his question, now he's a reference. Duh!?!?

I grabbed the AL plate off the G3 when I dropped it at work, so that plate may find it's way onto a transom near me 1 day soon.... The 1 on the Jet looks like it was for something specific, maybe even a transom/motor bracket, but it's definitely upside down, there are clamp marks on it that don't line up w/ how it is now, & the clamps themselves are half on half off of the lip around the recessed area in the center. We'll see when I get the motor off.

And yeah, $400 all in & a month's free storage.....
Yep, I can live w/ that......

Have a great Easter.....
