Hmmmm..from this fairly ambiguous post, shall we assume you are a proud owner?? If so, NICE!!!!

A name huh.....
Maybe "Last of the Mohicans"?? nooooo too long..

"Last stand"?

"Sitting Bull"?

"No Reservation"?

"HiyaWater"? (Hiwatha)

"Kimosabe"?

"Dances with Fish"? kinda like that...

I need some details here. How long did you look? What length, year, exact make?

I'm in Michigan also, where do you fish? Whereabouts in Michigan you from?

I need more details, and pictures, and details.

Looked for about few months, looked for 20 to 24 ft and obtained a 22ft. (Id) is not clear, was told 1974 and its a chieftain.

Originaly from Midland, baycity, saginaw area. The waters in and around these areas are my familiar fishing homes. Now near detroit and getting more familiar with the waters of the area: Detroit river, erie and etc.

That boat looks familiar. Did you buy it in the Algonac area? Nice find I like it!

There are a few of us here in the North Detroit suburbs. Welcome to the Starcraft fixer upper club. Check out the resto threads, there are a few really good ones going on.

Not the one in algonac but I did try to get my hands on that boat and missed it by one day. I was out bid by $600. Owner called me and told me not to come get the boat, He sold it to someone who just purchased his truck. Tow vehicle and the boat, go-figure.

Got hold of this one state over but has the smaller engine. Realy ready to start pulling the old floor and crap out of it and get it cleaned. I plan to use GLUV IT on all the seams. Been directed to L&R Meadia blasting for paint removal. Any better suggestions are welcome.

I almost got one too. This 1968 Holiday was on Craigslist and Ebay for at least three months. I finally bit on it and two days before I was to make a road trip, it sold. Oh well we each found another one.

Look at Hoopeshefloats resto thread. He used citrus paint remover to strip his boat down. It did an amazing job. Sandblasting aluminum scares me. You could do some damage if not super careful.

He didn't say it was "sand blasting", I have seen "soda Blasting" and it does an awesome job on aluminum, and safe. No mess either. You'll still want to be able to "chromakote" it

good luck !!!

Re: Starcraft search is done!!!!

good looking boat. I have a 1986 Cheiftain, title says 21 foot, looks just like yours as far as the hull goes. I have a canvas top and have remodeled the inside to fit my needs. I have the 140hp I/O, actually the crate engine stated 135hp.
Something I wish I had done was put a belly tank in it. I have two tanks under each seat (driver/passenger) I think they are about 16 gallons each (alum tanks). When I got the boat I replaced all fuel lines and tanks where in good shape so I kept them. I wish I had a 45 gallon belly tank shifted as far forward as I could place it. But I replaced the floor and have plans to take the floor back up.
I also wish I would have gluv it the inside seams, but I found Iboats after putting the new floor in.
I am glad I used marine plywood.
I like the cabin door so it swings in, up against the shelf I built on one side. The other side where the sink was has a removable shelf where the fish box sits with a drain out the old sink hole. I installed a pump to pump fresh water into the fish box.
Wife and I sleep in ours numerous times each year, I love the set up for a 21 footer, wish I had a 24 or 25 footer, those rare Islander or Cheiftains.

Soda blasting is good, that's what I'll use on mine. I saw the words media and blasting and that to me usually means some sort of aluminum oxide etc. I guess the media could be soda also.

Exactly as I plan to do. Just seems perfect for space savings and for needed fuel. I will find out exactly what they offer best for aluminum cleaning over at L&R but will definately stay away from the sand. The boat lasted this many years and I dont want to be the one to screw it up.

Got an awsome passion for this boat and its going to be great!

Re: Starcraft search is done!!!!

ReoRod,
If you are interested my 21' Cheiftain burns about 20-22 gallons on approximately a 40 mile round trip Halibut fishing. This is about 32 miles ocean running, 4 miles bay, and then moving around fishing. Normally running 15 mph.
At 20 mph nice days I would say I get about 3-4 miles/gallon. Rough days 2 miles/gallon. I like to have lots of extra fuel incase I hit bad weather, so I wish I had about 40-45 gallons. With a tank in the middle you will not have to deal with one side becoming light when that tank is empty.

I was going to name mine "Morning-Dew", the wife always has to have a mountain Dew in the morning to get going.
